The Joo Chiat-Katong enclave is rich in history and culture, known especially for the pastel-coloured Peranakan-inspired shophouses along Koon Seng Road. While steeped in heritage, the area has also become a hip dining destination, the latest entrant of which is Starbucks. The global coffee chain has just opened its newest outlet in Katong Square.
Occupying the corner unit of 86 East Coast Road, this new Starbucks outlet is done up in muted greens and greys ─ a bright, airy space that highlights and celebrates the architectural structures of the existing building.
Its walls are also dressed with colourful frescos by local artist Danielle Tay, which honour the rich Peranakan heritage of the Katong-Joo Chiat district, and the lush landscapes from which Starbucks gets their coffees.

The opening of this outlet gives Easties a new option for their coffee hangouts, especially since Starbucks has just brought back their annual fall drinks, including the ever-popular Pumpkin Spice Latte.Â

Their 2020 Anniversary collection, featuring pastel mermaid mugs, will most likely also be available in this outlet, as well as the latest Starbucks x Rebecca Minkoff collaboration collection, a limited-edition collection which seeks to empower women.

This Katong Square outlet will definitely join the ranks of the prettiest, most photogenic Starbucks outlets in Singapore. With its textured grey walls and candy-coloured wall art, we think that this outlet might just be our favourite one yet.

While you’re in the area, check out Strands and Grains at Roxy Square next door for cheap and good Western food, or visit East Treasure Speciality Prawn Noodle to get a spanking bowl of hei mee!Â
