Traditional Chinese desserts have long been a hit among Singaporeans, with new spots popping up across the island every now and then. One of the latest to open is Tea Story, a quaint Chinese teahouse in MacPherson offering pretty dessert bowls and floral teas.
Step inside and you’ll be greeted by a cosy space filled with wooden furniture and lanterns, reminiscent of a traditional teahouse in Chengdu, China.
We started with the IG-worthy Handmade Pandan Rice Noodles ($8.90).Â
It features pandan jelly that’s cut to resemble bamboo shoots, juicy mango cubes, chewy sweet potato and taro balls, sweet sago, crunchy chestnut pearls, and a generous drizzle of sweet milk. An adorable panda-shaped marshmallow is added for extra charm.
A healthier alternative is the Traditional Snow Fungus Stew with Pear ($9.70).
This warm dessert comprises house-made peach gum, white fungus, and white fungus syrup simmered with a whole Chinese snow pear. It’s topped with goji berries, which combine well with the pear and white fungus.Â
Dessert bowls aside, indulge in their range of house-made teas that are brewed to order.
The Rose Milk Tea ($9.90) is a crowd favourite, starring fragrant Royal Ceylon tea with fresh rose petals for added fragrance.Â
BBT aficionados, go for the Bubble Milk Tea ($3.80). This version leans on the sweeter side compared to the rose tea, and comes with chewy brown sugar pearls that boast a rich caramel flavour.
Otherwise, check out their range of freshly brewed milk teas. The drink names can be a little vague, but the friendly staff are happy to help if you need some clarification. We tried the Blush Oolong ($6.90), which turned out to be their take on a peach oolong tea. It was light, refreshing, and perfect for a hot day out.
Tea Story is a small 20-seater cafe that’s located a short two-minute walk from MacPherson MRT Station Exit C.Â
In related content, Wong Fu Fu is launching a mega matcha latte at their Crayon Shin-Chan pop-up from 19 June 2025. For more sweet treats, check out Gelato Messina, a new cafe in Chinatown that’s been drawing crowds since its opening.
