Home-based bakery The Homme Baker, which started in 2020 amid the COVID-19 pandemic has opened their first physical location in the all-new Margaret Market, located just five minutes away from Queenstown MRT Station.
The bakery is helmed by Bangkok-born pastry chef Pond Lim, who’s known for his creative takes on classic cakes. They are best known for their signature T&J collection━named after the iconic duo Tom & Jerry━where the cakes come in the form of slices of Swiss cheese encased in a flavoured chocolate shell.
The T&J collection comes in six different flavours, including T&J Ondeh ($8.80) which is great for those who like a more traditional flavour. This cake is coated in a pandan chocolate shell and contains coconut gratings and gula melaka━just like the kueh!
Get their T&J Strawberry Shortcake ($8.80), which is said to be popular among the ladies for its sweetness and lovely pink colour.
Alternatively, try my personal favourite━the T&J Yuzu ($9.80) that’s zesty and refreshing, and less sweet than the other flavours we tried.
Other flavours in the collection include Cheesecake Original ($8.80), Dark Chocolate Banoffee ($8.80), and Raspberry Panna Cotta ($8.80). Get a box of three with flavours of your choice for $24.50 or a box of six, priced at $46.30.
The Homme Baker also offers sliced and whole cakes, such as fruit cakes, chocolate cakes and more.
The Auspicious Mandarin Orange Cake ($7.80) comes in layers of a soft sponge cake and mandarin orange filling. The sponge was light and fluffy, glazed in a smooth glaze of mandarin orange sauce that was pleasantly citrusy.
The next slice that we tried was their Classic Pineapple Upside Down Cake ($7.80): a very traditional bake which features caramelised brown sugar pineapple slices and cherries topping a soft and buttery vanilla cake. This delightfully moist cake is best enjoyed slightly warm!
Those who like rich and dense cakes should go for their bestselling “Be Proud & Gorgeous” Chocolate Cake ($9.80)━a timeless classic. This decadent cake is made with dark chocolate and glazed with sweet, buttery chocolate sauce, making it extra indulgent.
A must-try here is Lim’s personal favourite, their Bunny Carrot Cake ($8.80).
If you love textured desserts, this is for you. The grated carrot, walnuts, pecans, and rum-soaked raisins create a satisfying crunch, with sweetness, earthy nuttiness and more in every bite.
Pair your cakes with The Homme Baker’s Latte ($4.50), or if you’re still craving something sweet, opt for their legit Iced Thai Milk Tea ($5.50) instead.
Check out our Margaret Drive Hawker Centre for more food options nearby. Otherwise, head to Urban Folks, next to The Homme Baker, for acai bowls and more!
