If you’re a pasta lover, chances are you’ve heard of  Tipo Pasta Bar or Tipo Strada. The Muslim-owned Tipo brand has steadily built a loyal following over the years, starting with its original DIY pasta concept on Aliwal Street, which regularly draws a full house. Since then, Tipo has expanded, opening multiple outlets across the country.Â
Great news for fans: Tipo has just launched a new outlet at Wheelock Place. This latest addition follows the popular Strada concept, serving the brand’s signature handmade pasta!
With a wide range of mouthwatering mains to choose from, the menu is thoughtfully divided into four categories—Red, White, Pink, and Favourites—each main priced affordably under $20++. These dishes feature three types of pasta—Campanelle, Gemelli, and Mafalde—all made in-house.Â
While the menu is similar to other Tipo Strada locations in Keong Saik and Novena, the Wheelock outlet has a special treat: an exclusive, limited-edition Nori Pasta that you won’t find anywhere else.Â
Be sure to try their signature Rose Duck ($15.50++), which we tried with Gemelli pasta—short, spiral-shaped pasta infused with a subtle curry flavour. The dish features generous chunks of smoky duck, which lend a rich umami depth that perfectly balances the creamy, aromatic sauce.
Alternatively, pair the Creamy Crab ($19.90++) with Malfadine pasta for an indulgent experience. The dish is generously loaded with tender chunks of crab, perfectly cooked to highlight its sweet, delicate flavour. The spicy garlic cream sauce, infused with sriracha, adds a bold layer of heat, giving the dish a fiery contrast to the rich, creamy base.
The Black Prawn ($19.90++) is another standout seafood dish you won’t want to miss. This umami-packed creation features your choice of pasta tossed in a jet-black squid ink sauce, and crowned with fresh basil. We chose nori-infused Campanelle on our previous visit.Â
Three plump tiger prawns and charred cherry tomatoes top off the dish, adding a burst of sweetness that beautifully contrasts the deep, savoury sauce. We liked that the petal-like edges and hollow centre of the pasta allowed each piece to hold onto the thick, flavourful sauce!
If you’re visiting for brunch or tea time, the cafe serves up a nice selection of pastries that are freshly baked in-house. Options include croissant ($3.90++), almond croissant ($4.50++), pain suisse ($5.50++) and more.
This Wheelok cafe is cosy and welcoming with tiled floors, light wood accents, and soft mood lighting that sets a relaxed and inviting tone. Whether you’re stopping by for a laid-back brunch or enjoying a hearty family meal, the space effortlessly caters to both casual gatherings and more intimate dining experiences.
