This Korean-Japanese Restaurant Has Jeju Abalone Porridge And Cheese Tonkatsu In City Hall

Ureshii is a hidden Korean-Japanese restaurant at The Arts House

Dining out in town can be expensive, so when we heard about Ureshii‘s value-for-money lunch sets, we knew we had to drop them a visit. The Korean-Japanese restaurant is tucked in The Arts House, an eight-minute walk from City Hall MRT Station.

Ureshii is headed by Korean owner-chef Jang Kyung-bok, who’s also behind Tanoshii, a highly-rated Japanese-Korean restaurant along Cairnhill Road. The interiors are bold and artsy, with semi-private nooks for intimate meals.

As mentioned earlier, Ureshii has lunch sets that are available from 11:50am to 3pm daily. They’re well-priced from $18++ each, so you won’t break the bank!

One must-try is the Cordonbur ($28++): crispy deep-fried black pork sirloin from Hokkaido topped with loads of fresh veggies and stretchy cheese. Get your phone ready for the ultimate cheese pull shot!

Each set also comes with rice, soup, a side dish, and barley tea, so you won’t leave hungry.

If you want to load up on the carbs, opt for the Mentaiko Pasta ($18++) instead.

You get a heaping serving of al dente pasta drenched in an indulgent mentaiko sauce that’s made in-house. Completing the hearty main is a spoonful of green fish roe, which adds a kick of brininess and umami to the dish.

On to the highlight of our meal: Jeju Abalone Porridge ($68++).

Each serving is good enough for two diners to share. You get eight gloriously plump abalones that are sourced from Jeju, atop a bed of savoury rice porridge.

The porridge is cooked with abalone intestines, then spiked with sesame oil and sesame seeds for maximum flavour and nutrition. Each serving also comes with a side dish, miso soup, and barley tea.

To end, you can’t go wrong with their Korean Traditional Injeolmi Pat-Bingsoo ($18++) AKA Korean shaved ice with chewy mochi chunks and soy bean powder, finished with sweet red bean paste.
