When we reviewed Uya in 2018, we mentioned that the unagi restaurant served up quality eel dishes that could rival the OG Man Man, now known as Unagi Tei Restaurant. If you’ve yet to pay a visit to the former’s flagship restaurant in Wheelock Place, then here’s some good news: Uya is opening their second outlet in Novena Specialist Centre that might just be easier for you to get to.
Uya takes great pride in ensuring the quality of their unagi remains tip-top. Eels are flown in live from fisheries weekly, and prepared to order, so freshness is ensured. The chefs at Uya also specially source for meatier, bigger eels, so you’re definitely getting bang for your buck here.
Uya Novena will offer all the restaurant’s beloved classics, and some new additions to the menu as well.Â

An all-time favourite and a must-try for first-time visitors is their Hitsumabushi (form $35++). A generous portion of unagi is grilled and glazed with Uya’s secret tare sauce, then served atop a bed of sweet Niigata rice. You get three different condiments to eat with the dish, including house-made umami dashi, and fresh wasabi.
If you’re looking for something less indulgent, Uya offers the Healthy Unagi Rice Bowl ($29++), served with eel on short-grain rice, with the nutritious addition of natto beans, Japanese mountain yam, lady’s fingers, and a sous vide egg.

Else, diners looking to go all out can try the Sea Urchin and Wagyu Rice Bowl ($45++), which comes with all the luxurious trimmings: Wagyu slices, Hokkaido uni lobes, and a generous scoop of ikura.
Uya also offers a variety of starters on the menu should you want to order some to share, from the snackable Deep Fried Eel Liver ($9++) to crunchy-creamy Oyster Tempura ($12++).
Do note that last order timings here are at 2pm and 9pm daily.
