10 Valentine’s Day Date Night Ideas For A Romantic Evening Filled With Good Food At Suntec City

Spend your Valentine’s Day at Suntec City

Valentine’s Day is just around the corner. And while I’m a firm believer in pampering your beau all year round, there’s no reason why you can’t do something extra special on 14 February too. Take advantage of the slew of Valentine’s Day set meals as well as the free weekday parking after 5pm at Suntec City. I picked out 10 charming places in the mall that suits couples with different budgets, so you can have a romantic evening with your significant other!

Casual spots (<$30 per person)

1. KURO Izakaya

For a legit izakaya experience, head to KURO Izakaya. Situated along Suntec City’s roundabout and facing the Fountain of Wealth, this watering hole is dimly lighted up by Japanese-inspired lanterns, giving off an amorous ambience.

Start your meal on a right note with their Onsen Tamago ($8++). Served in a cocktail glass, the cold appetiser features a slow-cooked poached egg, shirataki noodles, yuzu, and ikura.

Great with a pint of ice cold Kirin beer ($8++) is their Charcoal Grilled Kushiyaki Platter ($18++ for six sticks). The skewer spread comes with crisp chicken skin, bacon-wrapped enoki, bacon-wrapped scallop, chicken yakitori, grilled oyster mushroom, pork kushiyaki, and a house-made dipping sauce. Complete your meal and order their new Truffle Ramen ($20++)!

2. Olivia & Co.

Feel at ease when you dine at Olivia & Co.. The open-space cafe is found in the centre of the mall, and is decked in plush furnishings including a leather sofa. The vibe here is extremely relaxed, perhaps because you aren’t confined by four walls.

Whether it’s Western grub or Asian fusion, their extensive menu offers plenty of scrumptious options. Those in love with brunch fare will enjoy their Brioche French Toast ($19++). The stack of two fluffy French toasts is topped with berries, bananas, strawberries and a tangy strawberry crème fraîche. For something savoury, their Laksa Pasta ($16++) featuring grilled prawns and a creamy laksa leaf pesto will do the trick.

Unit number: #01-481, North Wing (Between Towers 1 & 2)
Opening hours: Mon-Thur 7:30am to 9pm, Fri 7:30am to 9:30pm, Sat 9am to 9:30pm, Sun 10am to 9pm

3. Dookki

Dookki, which means “two meals” in Korean, will remind you of your time in Seoul. Great for a fun date, the 90-minute Korean tteokbokki buffet ($18.80++ per person) lets you create your own soup base for your hot pot, as well as cook kimchi fried rice with the remaining broth when you’re done. Make it the ultimate value-for-money feast by cooking ramyeon in your pot as well!

What’s special here is that you don’t have to stick to the usual tteokbokki base. Mix and match the soup bases offered to tweak the level of spiciness, or go for the cream base that’ll remind you of carbonara. For an additional $9.80++, you can also zhng up your meal with their decadent Double Cheese Ring!

The buffet spread comprises a selection of rice cakes of various shapes, textures and flavours such as sweet potato, cheese-filled tteok and even heart-shaped tteok. While you wait for your food to cook, pick up a few sticks of eomuk (Korean fishcake) to keep your tummy from growling in front of your date!

4. Golden Village Gold Class®

Spruce up your movie date this Valentine’s Day and catch a film at Golden Village’s Gold Class®. Not only will you and your date be blessed with spacious leg space and comfy lounge seating, you will also be well taken care of by the highly trained service staff with just a touch of a button. Filming on Valentine’s Day are hot titles including Fifty Shades of Freed . Tickets go at $29 from Monday to Wednesday, and $39 every Thursday to Sunday, eve of and on public holidays, as well as for sneaks and previews.

Fret not if you don’t have time to catch a movie. You can still dine at the Golden Village Gold Class® lounge, with no ticket necessary! Aside from their Valentine’s Day set menu that’s available only on 14 Feb, they also offer an indulgent Sweet Treats ($16) set comprising one dessert and coffee or TWG tea. Great for the ‘gram is their Pandan Lava Cake (U.P. $13++), where vibrant green pandan cream oozes onto vanilla ice-cream as you slice it open. The ice-cream comes along with walnuts, blueberry goji and coconut granola.

5. Eat at Seven –  Maguro Donya Miuramisakikou Sushi and Dining

Found within Eat At Seven, Maguro Donya Miuramisakikou Sushi and Dining is a tidy little restaurant that reminds me of my time in Tokyo, thanks to its bamboo fittings all around. The place exudes warmth the moment you step in, starting from the friendly greetings from the chirpy waitstaff.

Shipping in their tuna from the acclaimed Misaki Port in Miura, Japan, the cuts here are top of the line. Order their Maguro Megumi Special Set ($49.90++) for a feast for the senses. The luxurious set showcases three different cuts of bluefin tuna, served in three different ways – sashimi, lightly seared, and fully grilled. Another dish not to be missed is their Maguro 5 Cuts Sashimi ($52++) featuring all the best cuts of a tuna, including the extra fatty otoro.

6. Eat At Seven – Enbu

Situated at Suntec City’s gorgeous Sky Garden is Eat at Seven’s Enbu. Its floor-to-ceiling window walls allow dazzling night lights to pour in, and provides an intimate setting. Share a moment and marvel at the Fountain of Wealth, which the Japanese restaurant overlooks.

Super value-for-money is the ENBU Valentine’s Day Lobster Omakase ($98++ for two people). The six-course menu kicks off with a platter of four appetisers, followed by a sashimi platter featuring chutoro and salmon. The meal also comes with silky smooth truffle chawanmushi crowned with a plump Japanese oyster. Guaranteed to wow bae is the grilled lobster with uni sauce as well as the overflowing kaisen don. End it off on a sweet note with their yukimi kinako mochi – a chewy mochi filled with vanilla ice-cream.

7. District 10 Bar & Grill

District 10 Bar & Grill is my go-to spot for date night with my husband, so it’s no surprise it is one of my recommended places for Valentine’s Day. The unpretentious steakhouse, which offers both indoor and outdoor seats, is an ideal place for a laid-back dinner date.

Dry-aged meat is their speciality and a must-order is their 30 Days Home Dry Aged Irish Grass-fed Black Angus Rib Eye ($20++ for 100g, with a minimum order of 200g). Little seasoning is needed for the well-marbled slab of beefy goodness, which has an intensely nutty flavour profile and a buttery texture.

The Angel Hair Pasta ($36++) that’s tossed in an aromatic butter truffle sauce and topped with cod fish, seaweed and salmon roe is another favourite of mine. Using real truffle instead of truffle oil, the al dente pasta is a plate of decadence.

Unit number:  #01-514/515, North Wing (Next to Tower 2 Taxi Stand)

8. Bistro 1855

1855 The Bottle Shop’s first gastrobar concept, Bistro 1855, is a classy destination for both dinner and drinks. If your date is always up for a glass of wine, you can rest assured he or she will be truly impressed by their wine cellar housing over 500 labels.

Swing by for dinner on 14 Feb 2018 to enjoy their grand Valentine’s Day Five-Course Set Menu ($75++ per person). The menu features exquisite dishes such as the Watermelon Stack that’s accompanied by avocado, arugula, pomegranate, a smattering of pine nuts and spicy honey relish.

For mains, choose between their Olive Oil Poached NZ King Salmon with Couscous, Watercress, Katsuobushi and Wasabi Ponzu, or the succulent New Zealand Canterbury Grass-fed Beef Tenderloin. The latter is served with garlic and herbs butter, potato puree, bacon, and grilled Romaine heart with roquefort dressing.

9. Dallas Restaurant & Bar

At Dallas Restaurant & Bar, sophistication reigns supreme. Here, their lofty ceiling is paired with expansive windows boasting panoramic views of the city skyline. Adding to the elegance of the space is the grand timber partition that separates the bar from the main dining hall.

Choose from two seatings, 5:30pm to 8pm and 8:30pm till late, on Valentine’s Day and dine like royalty when you treat your beau to Dallas’ special three-course Valentine’s Day menu at $120++ per couple. The dinner starts with a scrumptious Seafood Sharing Platter comprising Maryland crabcakes, grilled king prawns, and calamari. For mains, you can choose from their Thyme Roasted Lamb Rack Cutlets, Spiced Chicken Breast, Miso Glazed Cod or Dallas Prime Rib. The latter is served with a tantalising onion tart, roasted portobello mushroom and garlic fries. The fat flank of prime rib was richly flavoured and cooked to a succulent medium-rare.

End your meal with a Trio of Dallas Dessert that includes a tart Lemon Cheesecake with Strawberries and Grand Marnier Cream, Chocolate Almond Torte, and a scoop of ice-cream with a brandy snap. If you and bae both love sweet treats, this is definitely a showstopper not to be missed.
