Singapore has got a plethora of delicious vegetarian food, including meat-free options across Korean and Japanese cuisines. Here’s another restaurant to add to the list: Warung Ijo, a vegetarian Indonesian restaurant in Tai Seng!

Warung Ijo aims to make homely, Indonesian food accessible to everyone, thus all their food is allium-free, alcohol-free, and made using vegan-friendly products. Vegans can also opt to have their meals without eggs.

The highly raved Rendang Fried Rice ($10.90) is what you should come here for. Lion mane mushrooms, a popular ingredient in vegetarian and vegan cooking, are used as a substitute for the usual beef or chicken when cooking the rendang.

The mushroom’s texture is also said to be similar to beef, making it ideal to absorb the spicy and coconutty gravy. It’s served with fried rice, accompanied by keropok, a sunny-side up, cucumber, and tomato. Diners also get to choose their spice level, ranging from one to three. Do note that this dish is unavailable on Mondays.

Another must-try dish is the Gulai Fish ($10.90), a classic, spicy Indonesian stew that’s made with jackfruit, your ‘meat’ of choice, turmeric, and coconut milk. Here, the ‘fish’ is actually tofu beancurd, boasting a soft and tender texture that complements the rich curry.

Otherwise, the Kalasan Fried Chicken ($10.90) is another delicious, classic Indonesian dish. It is essentially turmeric-infused chicken that’s been deep fried till golden brown and crispy. Similar to the previous dishes, this dish is also made using mock meat.

Warung Ijo has also got more common Indonesian dishes such as ayam penyet, bakmi, and even kolo mee. The Indo Kolomee Goreng ($10.90) features springy instant noodles in a house-made sweet-spicy sauce with vegan meatballs and fried wonton skin. The Nasi Lemak Fried Chicken ($11.90) on the other hand, comes with aromatic coconut rice, fried turmeric mock chicken, long beans, cucumber, and sambal.

Chilli crab fans cannot miss out on Warung Ijo’s vegetarian version of Chilli Crab ($21.90) too, which features Omni ‘crab’ patties in a sweet, savoury, and spicy chilli crab sauce.
