VCR’s branch along Jalan Galloway is popular among local coffee aficionados, and rightfully so. Decked out with dark wood and steel furnishings, the second floor is typically where you’ll find people working or studying. There’s free Wi-Fi and charging points here, though that means it’s often teeming with patrons.
Their Filter Coffee (RM25+) is a must-try for coffee lovers. It’s brewed using a V60, with beans roasted in-house—just ask the barista about the bean selection of the day. Apart from their range of coffees, you can expect a diverse selection of all-day specials, including the Soft Shell Crab Burger (RM30+) and Pennsylvania’s Soul (RM30+), a crispy chicken and sourdough waffle with chrysanthemum syrup. The cafe is also a seven-minute walk from the Merdeka MRT Station.

Inspired by Japan’s post-war jazz-kissa tradition, V88 Starhill is an all-day restaurant, cafe, and listening bar nestled within a bookstore. Ideal for late-night coffee drinkers, their Friday and Saturday night all-vinyl DJ sets create the perfect atmosphere for work or chilling. You can enjoy the cosy vibes indoors with palazzo floors, wooden furniture, and forest green accents, or dine on their outdoor balcony area for a panoramic view of the city centre.
The cafe specialises in Japanese fusion cuisine, as well as unique dishes with Malaysian flavours and ingredients. Get their Classic Cheese Beef Burger (RM33), a classic combination of Aussie chuck tender, lettuce, caramelised onion, and cheddar sandwiched between a beetroot bun. Then, wash it down with the Pandan Coconut Milk Latte (RM18), a coffee mocktail with a local twist. And if you’re a fan of pandan-coconut flavours, their Onde-Onde Cake (RM18) is a beloved choice among locals. I find their alcoholic Signature Tiramisu (RM18) to be the standout option. The cafe is also a convenient five-minute walk from Bukit Bintang MRT Station.

Complete with strong Wi-Fi, charging points, and half-frosted windows for added privacy, it’s great for those aiming to finish tasks at warp speed.
Have a sip of their specialty blend coffees, I recommend the Latte (RM12) or Long Black (RM10). For something hearty, many regulars praise the Smokey Business (RM26), a sourdough sandwich generously filled with smoked chicken breast, salsa verde, provolone cheese, avocado, and wild arugula.
