From cosy corners to strong Wi-Fi, Iām sharing my list of work-friendly cafes in Kuala Lumpur that offer more than just great coffee. The best part is that most of these cafes are conveniently accessible via public transport, making your next work-cation in Malaysia a breeze.
1. VCR

VCRās branch along Jalan Galloway is popular among local coffee aficionados, and rightfully so. Decked out with dark wood and steel furnishings, the second floor is typically where youāll find people working or studying. Thereās free Wi-Fi and charging points here too, though that means itās often teeming with patrons.

Their Filter Coffee (RM25+/~S$7.20+) is a must-try for coffee lovers. Itās brewed using a V60, with beans roasted in-houseājust ask the barista about the bean selection of the day. Apart from their range of coffees, you can expect a diverse selection of all-day specials, including the Soft Shell Crab Burger (RM30+/~S$8.60+) and Pennsylvaniaās Soul (RM30+/~S$8.60+), a crispy chicken and sourdough waffle with chrysanthemum syrup. 2. Bean Brothers KL

Bean Brothers KL sources and roasts premium coffee beans at their central Incheon roastery before distributing them to their global outlets. Coffee enthusiasts rave about their Black Suit Signature Blend (RM10/~S$2.90) for its nutty flavour profile, balanced with bittersweet dark chocolate flavour. Enjoy it black, with milk, or for the adventurous souls, as a bold espresso shot. For a light snack, try their Croissant (RM11+/~S$3.20+) and top it with either scrambled eggs or avocado sprinkled with smoked sea salt. The cafe is a 5-minute walk from Ampang Park LRT Station.

3. V88 Starhill

Inspired by Japanās post-war jazz-kissa tradition, V88 Starhill is an all-day restaurant, cafe, and listening bar nestled within a bookstore. Ideal for late-night coffee drinkers, their Friday and Saturday night all-vinyl DJ sets create the perfect atmosphere for work or chilling. You can enjoy the cosy vibes indoors with palazzo floors, wooden furniture, and forest green accents, or dine on their outdoor balcony area for a panoramic view of the city centre.

The cafe specialises in Japanese fusion cuisine, as well as unique dishes with Malaysian flavours and ingredients. Get their Hibachi Beef Sandwich (RM38/~S$11), which features a ribeye marinated in hibachi sauce, topped with bonito flakes, and served in a fluffy baguette. Then, wash it down with the Pandan Coconut Milk Latte (RM18/~S$5.20), a coffee mocktail with a local twist. And if you’re a fan of pandan-coconut flavours, their Onde-Onde Cake (RM18/~S$5.20) is a beloved choice among locals. 4. The Hub Coffee Roasters

Considered one of KLās most esteemed coffee roasters, The Hub Coffee Roasters take pride in their meticulous sourcing and roasting techniques. Many locals swear by their coffee beans. Their original outlet in Taman OUG is equipped with charging points, natural light, and a variety of different seating optionsāall to suit your remote working needs. On the decor front, the space gives off a simple modern charm. Their coffee menu, however, is anything but simple.

Caffeine addicts will be spoilt for choice here with over 30 varieties of house-roasted, single-origin coffees to choose from. Their bestsellers include Colombia Cerro Azul Geisha (RM35/~S$10.10) and Ethiopia Gesha Village Illubabor Forest (RM22/~S$6.30), which are only served as filtered coffees. For their usual house blends such as Latte (RM13/~S$3.70) or Cappuccino (RM13/~S$3.70), be sure to top it off with their house-made Evaporated Milk (RM3/~S$0.80) for a richer cuppa.

5. Kofi By 77

Kofi by 77 is a pet-friendly and work-friendly cafe in Mont Kiara thatās hard to miss. The minimalist zen interior has free Wi-Fi and diverse seating options, including long tables for group meetings, and bar seats by a large bay window for solo work sessions. Here, you can also book a private room thatās equipped with a large projector screen for business meetings.

Treat yourself to their Signature by 77 (RM12/~S$3.40): an espresso topped with sparkling soda and refreshing lemon slices, or opt for a classic Flat White (RM12/~S$3.40) to get your caffeine fix. If youāre feeling peckish, try the Don by 77 (RM32/~S$9.30), a pan-seared teriyaki salmon with tamago, grilled asparagus, salad, and Japanese rice. If youāre in need of a sweet treat, go for their best-selling Honey Lemon Burnt Cheese Cake (RM15/~S$4.30).

6. The Orange Couch Cafe

The Orange Couch Cafe in Subang Jaya pays homage to the hit TV show Friends, honouring the iconic Central Perk cafeās couch in its name. The cafe boasts an industrial atmosphere, featuring concrete interiors and stylish burnt orange accents. Plus, thereās Wi-Fi and ample charging points to cater to your WFH needs.

Donāt pass on their range of specialty coffees, including The Orange Couch Signature (RM16/~S$4.60): espresso with fresh orange juice and pulp, or give Snooze The Day (RM18/~S$5.20) a try, for a cold brew coffee with strawberry syrup and fresh strawberries. Some of their menu items are also creatively inspired by the showās characters. The food menu isnāt as extensive, but youāll find waffles named Rachel Berries (RM24/~S$6.90) and Chandler Bean (RM24/~S$6.90); the latter features tau fu fa ice cream and seasonal fruits sprinkled with chocolate chips and coconut flakes. Although located a little further from KL, itās only a 4-minute walk from the SS15 LRT Station.

Discover LOKL Coffee Co located in the heart of KL. Touted as one of the cityās top brunch destinations among locals and tourists, this is where you go to indulge in a feast for both your eyes and tastebuds. The indoor seating has an urban chic vibe juxtaposed with vintage decor, while the al fresco area is the epitome of a concrete jungle, with gravel floors, lush plant displays, concrete walls, and dark wood bench seats. From their brunch menu, the Fluffy Pancakes (RM20/~S$4.20) topped with whipped coconut cream, gula melaka syrup and honey pecans is a crowd favourite. But if youāre in the mood for something savoury, try their Thai Breakfast Omelette (RM18/~S$3.80) or Eggs Florentine (RM32/~S$6.70). If youāre looking for a double dose of caffeine, try their best-selling So Matcha Better (RM15/~S$3.10): Niko Neko matcha combined with espresso. You can expect a mish-mash of Asian flavours on the menu, with highlights such as Stir Fried Kam Heong Lala Pasta (RM26/~S$5.50), spaghetti made with in-house kam heong sauce and a generous amount of white clams, as well as the Kimchi Pork Belly Rice (RM23/~S$4.80).

Those who love spice can try their signature Curry Nyonya With Wonton (RM15/~S$3.10), served with vegetarian chicken, eggplant, tau pok, tofu, potatoes, long bean veggie sambal, and taugeh. Otherwise, the Nasi Lemak Plant Based Fillet (RM15/~S$3.10) is also worth a try.
