1. Tachinomiya


It’s close to the end of the month and you just want a simple night out with your friends over drinks at a bar without breaking the bank. Although Kovan is well-known for Nakhon Kitchen and Lola’s Cafe, many may not know that a Japanese bar, Tachinomiya is within a mere stone’s throw away. This izakaya serves Asahi pints ($9.50 each), towers ($55 for 3 litres), and bottles of sake as cheap as $20 each. They also offer whiskey from $8 per glass.

2. Knuckles Bistro

You don’t have to wait for Oktoberfest or Christmas to have roast and German beer. In the North-East, you’ll be able to have a deboned Pork Knuckle ($10) with a side of sauerkraut and mashed potatoes at Knuckles Bistro. Their Pork Schnitzel ($10) is another popular choice. 3. The Larder Cafe

This cafe by day, bar by night has attracted many residents’ attention with their lit ambience amongst many kopitiams in the area. The Larder Cafe has a wide range of mains that pair well with their bottled beers (from $9). If you’re feeling classy, they serve bottles of wine from $23 each. So, enjoy a night with your BFFs and don’t worry so much about heading home from this central area!

4. Burp Kitchen & Bar

You won’t be heading down to Clarke Quay for drinks with a view when you realise Burp Kitchen & Bar is nestled in Bedok Reservoir. It’s a cafe-bar with a much tamer atmosphere than regular bars and it is known for their house-made burgers and bar bites that pair well with a drink. Half pints from the tap start at $6.50, and prices of cocktails start at $11.
