Save for Peninsula Plaza, which is like the local “Little Myanmar”, it’s pretty tough to find good and authentic Burmese food in Singapore. We previously reviewed Little Myanmar, and now we’ve uncovered an unassuming gem hidden right in the heartlands: 12GetNice. This is a 24-hour eatery in Ang Mo Kio, serving Burmese fare as well as local hawker staples like fried rice, hokkien mee, and even mala. It’s a blink-and-you ’ll-miss-it joint within an HDB block, tucked in a row of provision shops and neighbourhood salons. In short, the last place you’d expect to find solid Myanmar dishes.

The highlight is probably their Mohinga ($5). For the uninitiated, mohinga is Myanmar’s national dish, comprising rice noodles in a rich and hearty fish soup. 12GetNice’s rendition comes with silky bee hoon, a hard-boiled egg, and sliced onions that are cooked till soft and tender. The broth is on the thicker side, and packed with a robust yet clean fish flavour.

They also have a Myanmar Coconut Noodle dish going for $5 with just egg, and $5.90 for the chicken and egg version. Think of it as the Burmese answer to laksa, where yellow noodles are steeped in a lemak gravy. The yellow hue comes from chickpea flour, which also lends a delicate earthy flavour to this comforting coconut milk-based dish.

For a dry noodle dish, try their Nan Gyi Thoke ($5.50), where thick beehoon is tossed in a fragrant chicken curry spiked with chilli oil. The result is springy and slippery noodles coated in a savoury sauce, topped with chicken and egg.

Because 12GetNice operates 24 hours daily, it’s a great place to settle your Burmese food cravings any time of the day. Some of their local hawker offerings include Hokkien Mee ($5.90), Tom Yum Fried Rice ($6.50), and Sliced Fish Soup ($5).

They also whip up Yong Tau Foo and Mala Stir Fry with your choice of ingredients, with veggies priced at $2.20 per 100g, and meat and seafood from $2.50 per 100g. So, there’s a real mix of cuisines and dishes under one roof!

While they do not have halal certification at the moment, 12GetNice does not use pork in their cooking. The next time you’re hankering for some authentic Burmese food, swing by this no-frills eatery. It’s literally open all day, all year!

Other good food in the area can be found at Cheng San Market and Food Centre, located just a 5-minute walk away. We reviewed Nian Nian Fa Dim Sum, a humble stall in the market that is helmed by a Hong Kong chef with over 40 years of experience. If you’re craving late-night Japanese food, another 24-hour joint in Ang Mo Kio is Kazutake Ramen, which serves ramen and donburi.
