Iāll admit that I havenāt visited Thailand before. However, when I chanced upon a Thai snack stall trending on TikTok, I knew that I had to head down to give it a try. For those of you who miss Thailand, youāll want to check out Aroy Thai Snacksājust a five-minute bus ride from Woodleigh MRT Station. This hidden gem was previously located in Lau Pa Sat before they set up shop here, with their official opening slated for 10 April 2023!
Try the Sweet Potatoes Ball ($4): a bag of these comes with 16 golden brown, deep-fried puffs. These are super cheap, working out to just $0.30 per piece! These airy bite-sized snacks are chewy on the inside, with a light, crisp exterior. They proved pretty popular with my Eatbook colleagues when I shared them in the office!Ā
Go for their Banana Fritter too, priced at $4 for eight pieces. Each has a super crisp batter, topped with nutty sesame seeds, enfolding sweet banana within. Unlike the usual goreng pisang weāre used to, typically made with whole bananas, these come as slices, so thereās more crispy bits and less gooey insides.Ā
If you want something more substantial, they also have Mango Sticky Rice ($6), which is as classic a Thai dessert as it comes.Ā
While youāre waiting for that trip to Thailand, check out Un-Yang-Kor-Dai for Michelin-approved Northern Thai food! Alternatively, read our guide to the best Thai food places in Singapore, with legit tom yum and crab fried rice.Ā
