When Donq Bakery’s uji matcha lava bun went viral just last month, it was clear that the matcha hype never really goes down. Now, the very same Donq Bakery has collaborated with Azabu Sabo to bring us melon pan ice cream sandwiches, with ice cream flavours such as matcha and more.
For those who are unfamiliar with either Donq Bakery or Azabu Sabo, both hail from Japan. While the former specialises in baked goods, the latter is known for their Hokkaido ice cream. This collaboration between the two has given rise to the Melon Pan Ice Cream Sandwich ($5.80), which will be available at Azabu Sabo’s Takashimaya stall.
If you’re keen on trying this indulgent dessert, expect two scoops of creamy Hokkaido ice cream sandwiched in a fluffy melon bun, covered by a caramelised, crisp layer of cookie dough. Simply choose two flavours for your ice cream and enjoy this sweet pick-me-up. Do note, however, that only 20 sandwiches are available each day so go early to grab it!
Green tea lovers will also be delighted to learn that Azabu Sabo offers different types of ice cream flavours including the bittersweet, strong Matcha, and earthy Hojicha. Other popular ice cream flavours at the stall include the new Kuromitsu Kinako which refers to black sugar and roasted soybean flour. You can expect a honeyed, milky ice cream complete with nutty notes from the infusion of kinako.

Sweet-toothed readers who prefer to enjoy their ice cream alone can also enjoy a Single Cup for $4.80 or a Double Cup for $7. Otherwise, if you’re a cone kind of person, the Single Cone goes for $5.80 and the Double Cone for $8.

For those who adore soft serves, Azabu Sabo has you covered too. Simply pick between the Soft Serve Milk ($6) and the Soft Serve Matcha ($7). If you can’t decide on one flavour, get the Soft Serve Mix ($6.50). This combines both creamy milk and rich matcha ice cream into a single treat.
