For handmade rice dumplings that are made from scratch daily, head to Joo Chiat Kim Choo, an award-winning homegrown business that has lasted through the generations. Their crowning jewel is the Emperor’s Rice Dumpling ($25.80), where fragrant glutinous rice is packed with braised pork belly, dried scallops, lup cheong, salted egg yolk, and a mix of ginkgo nuts, chestnut, and shiitake mushroom. For a classic pick, consider the Nyonya Rice Dumpling ($8.30), starring tender braised pork and winter melon strips.

2. Thye Moh Chan


Teochew pastry shop Thye Moh Chan, in celebration of its 80th anniversary this year, has prepared an irresistible range of bak chang to mark the Dragon Boat Festival. The selection includes their well-loved Teochew Double Delight Bak Chang ($7.50) and Teochew Salted Egg Bak Chang ($7.50), along with the new Teochew Mushroom Chang ($7.50): sweet dried radish, mushrooms, and mutton mock mutton meat.

Try them at selected BreadTalk, Toast Box, and Thye Moh Chan stores, as well as online through Grabfood, Foodpanda, and Deliveroo from now till 31 May.

3. The Deli at Goodwood Park

Goodwood Park Hotel’s deli has some unique bak chang flavours in their lineup, such as the returning Mini ‘Kee Zhang’ with D24 Durian Dip ($12 for three), which features a moist rice dumpling served with a rice durian paste on the side. There’s even the new Dried Oyster & Pork Dumpling ($32++ for two), a glorious mix of dried oysters, pork belly, chestnuts, and Chinese mushrooms.

Delivery pre-orders can be placed at The Deli or via The Deli Online Shop, with pick-up and delivery available from now till 28 May. You need to order at least three days in advance. You can also enjoy these dumplings at the restaurants Min Jiang and Min Jiang at Dempsey.

4. Golden Peony

Golden Peony celebrates the Dragon Boat Festival with five unique rice dumplings, including returning favourites such as the Hong Kong Style Rice Dumpling ($39.80) and the bold Singapore Black Pepper Chilli Crab version ($37.80). New this year are the Ocean Treasure Dumpling ($42.80) and Wagyu Beef Dumpling with “Shacha” Sauce ($32.10).

One Michelin-starred Summer Palace has rolled out four rice dumplings this year, all crafted by dim sum chef Leong Kwok Sing. The star is the Signature Steamed Kurobuta Pork Rice Dumplings ($57), featuring Kurobuta pork, shiitake mushrooms, dried scallops, roast duck and more. For a sweeter treat, opt for the Steamed Rice Dumpling, Durian, Osmanthus Honey ($35++), where steamed rice and durian paste are wrapped and served with osmanthus honey.

New this year is the Traditional Abalone, Preserved Vegetables and Pork Belly Dumpling ($38.80), stuffed with abalone, Kurobuta pork belly, chestnut and more. 7. Din Tai Fung

While most know Din Tai Fung for its xiao long bao, the popular Taiwanese chain also offers some decent bak chang that’s perfect for the Dragon Boat Festival! The Red Bean Rice Dumpling ($8.80+) features rich red bean paste packed within pearl glutinous rice, with the whole thing shaped to look like a pillow.

These are available at all Din Tai Fung outlets for dine-in and takeaway, except the one at Velocity @ Novena Square.

8. Paradise Group

Paradise Group rolls out two new flavours for this year’s Dragon Boat Festival: the Roasted Iberico Pork with XO Sauce Dumpling and the Braised Pork with Conpoy and Mushroom Dumpling, both of which are found in Paradise Group’s Rice Dumpling Gift Set ($72.80). Returning favourites include classics such as the Abalone with Salted Pork Belly ($17.80) and Black Truffle Honey BBQ Iberico Pork ($14.80) rice dumplings.

9. Dian Xiao Er

Dian Xiao Er, usually known for their herbal roast ducks, has two standout dumplings this season: the savoury Traditional Salty Pork Dumpling and the fragrant Nyonya Pork Dumpling, both priced at $8.10. The former features tender pork belly, chestnut, mushroom, and salted egg yolk, while the latter is packed with a house-made spice blend that infuses the pork filling with a unique aroma. Sold frozen for easy reheating at home, they’re available in a Buy 4 Free 1 deal, complete with a free gift box for sharing or gifting.

10. Wah Lok Cantonese Restaurant

While the famous Wah Lok Cantonese Restaurant only has one bak chang to try, it nevertheless sounds absolutely tantalising. The Dried Oyster & Conpoy Dumpling ($28.80) features premium glutinous rice stuffed with smoked duck, Japanese conpoy, dried oyster, chestnut, and lotus seed. Each bite is said to offer a blend of savoury richness, gentle sweetness, and textural contrast.
