Bamboo Bowls: $10 Plant-Based Bowls By Award-Winning Chefs From Around The World

bamboo bowls at Telok Ayer

Bamboo bowls is the new kid on the block at Far East Square, serving up sustainable Asian-inspired noodles and rice bowls. Created by some of the most respected chefs in the region, the bowls are designed to be healthy, without compromising on taste.

The store is fully contactless, whereby customers have to place their orders and pay via bamboo bowl’s app. Simply download this on either the App Store or Google Play, and connect a credit card to make payment seamlessly.

When the food is ready, there are 10 custom-built collection pods where diners can retrieve their orders, prepared with mostly organic ingredients which are entirely unprocessed and unrefined.

For a limited time only, diners will get to enjoy a free bowl when they download the bamboo bowls app! The offer is only valid for one month from the date you download the app though, so don’t wait too long to visit.

Choose from eight different plant-based options, and watch as your order is assembled, through the open kitchen concept in bamboo bowls.

By default, all of the bowls are vegetarian and are priced at $10. Although there is not much flexibility in customisation, you can however request for the meals to be made vegan too.

Otherwise, keto-friendly cauliflower rice and Shirataki yam noodles are also available as low-carb substitutes for just $3. Additionally, you could also pay a top-up of $5 to enjoy a serving of their ethically-sourced meat options if you want extra protein.

Try the Sichuan, which is a mala cold noodle bowl created by Chef Jowett Yu of Hong Kong’s Ho Lee Fook. Featuring chewy hand-pulled noodles, crunchy black fungus, and bamboo bowls’ special plant-based minced meat, the Sichuan is a good balance of acidity and spice. Add on their organic and free-range Chilled Drunken Chicken if you’d like some meat to go with your noodles.

For something brighter, go for MasterChef Singapore judge Bjorn Shen’s creation—the Saigon. Vietnamese rice noodles are accompanied by pickled radish and carrots, fried lemongrass tofu, fresh coriander and basil, for a healthy and appetising meal. The dish also uses bamboo bowls’ very own vegan “fish” sauce, which is made from kombu and dried shiitake mushrooms.

The recommended meat add-on for this noodle bowl is the Roasted Pork Belly. With crispy, crackling skin, and thick, juicy layers of meat, the slices of pork belly are irresistible and are sure to leave you craving more.

The decor of bamboo bowls is minimalist. Decked in white and accented by wooden tones, the restaurant has both indoor and outdoor dining areas.

Seating is free-for-all, so it’s probably best to head down early to grab the best seats in the house. Do note that most of the tables are located outside, so it might get warm in the afternoon.

The next time you’re in the area, check out Korio for some legit doughnuts and sandwiches, or guess the ingredients of your meal at NOX—Dine In The Dark!
