First Look At The New Sanrio Cafe In USS—Kuromi Cakes, Plushies And More

Superstar Cafe is a new Sanrio-themed cafe at USS

Sanrio fans, you might want to plan a trip to Sentosa soon! Universal Studios Singapore (USS) has just opened Superstar Boutique and Superstar Cafe, two new Sanrio-themed concepts located in the park’s Hollywood zone. When we headed down to check out the cafe, we were greeted by bright pink interiors, character-themed desserts, and plenty of photo spots that felt straight out of a Sanrio universe.

Do note that the cafe is located inside Universal Studios Singapore, so be sure to drop by if you’re visiting the theme park.

The cafe and retail store sit right across from each other, both centred around familiar faces such as Hello Kitty, My Melody, Cinnamoroll, and Kuromi. The Superstar Cafe has an open, doorless layout, so you’ll probably catch the smell of Butter Caramel Popcorn ($12++) before you even realise where it’s coming from.

The food menu is created in collaboration with Sanrio, with each item designed around a character. Swiss rolls are a big focus here, with flavours such as Kuromi Black Sesame & Vanilla ($10++) and My Melody Lychee & Rose ($10++).

The swiss rolls may look a little gimmicky at first glance, but they actually tasted pretty good. While not the most moist, both were soft and fluffy with no cracking—a sign that the cakes were well-baked. The lychee swiss roll was our favourite, as it had a balanced sweetness and perfume-like aroma from the rose-infused Chantilly cream.

There’s also the Hello Kitty Strawberry Delight ($10++), which was our favourite dessert. Unlike the other offerings, this one featured a minimal presentation with a simple Hello Kitty bow on top. Layered with sweet strawberries that added a slight tang, it reminded us of Chateraise’s strawberry shortcake, just slightly richer, paired with a light and airy cream.

If you’re craving something sweeter, the Bombolone ($9.50++ each) comes in flavours including mango, strawberry, and blueberry, each decorated with a Sanrio character topper. A standout was the Hello Kitty Bombolone, a pillowy doughnut filled with raspberry compote that added a tangy burst against the rich vanilla diplomat cream.

We also enjoyed the Cinnamoroll Bombolone, which was stuffed with apple cinnamon filling. It reminded us of a festive spiced apple cake, but in doughnut form.

Drinks follow the same theme, with colourful options such as My Melody Popping Lemon Fizz and Hello Kitty Green Apple Freeze, priced at $11.50++ each. The former is essentially a refreshing pink lemonade slushie, topped with a dried lemon slice and generously filled with konjac jelly, which we imagine would be a hit among younger fans.

You’ll also find character-branded lattes flavoured with caramel, vanilla, and chocolate, served in adorable themed cups. We had the Pompompurin Caramel Latte ($10++), a creamy beverage with espresso and steamed milk, which came with a chocolate-coated pretzel stick for stirring.

After filling up on the desserts, you can head over to Superstar Boutique, where you’ll find a wide range of merchandise, including plush toys, stationery, accessories, and keychains. There’s also a USS-exclusive Sanrio collection that you won’t find anywhere else.

If you’re lucky, you might also catch the meet-and-greet sessions, where life-sized mascots such as Hello Kitty and Pompompurin make appearances for short performances and photo ops. Don’t fret if you miss out on the meet-and-greet, as you can still pose with the adorable Hello Kitty and Cinnamoroll statues outside the cafe’s entrance.
