Viral Hokkaido Cheesecake Brand Opens Limited-Time Pop-Up At ION Orchard

Cheese Wonder opens in Orchard with famous Hokkaido cheesecakes

PSA: CHEESE WONDER, a viral Japanese cheesecake brand with long queues overseas, is launching its first Singapore pop-up at ION Orchard from 8 May 2026. The dessert will be available for a limited eight-week run at the mall’s Basement 4 atrium.

The brand first gained popularity in Japan for its highly limited releases, where customers had to purchase the desserts online at specific time slots. These batches were often sold out within minutes, with demand spilling over to physical pop-ups in cities including Hong Kong, where queues stretched for hours.

At the centre of the brand is its signature no-bake frozen cheesecake, made using dairy and free-range eggs sourced from the brand’s farm in Hokkaido. Unlike baked cheesecakes, such as those by homegrown brand Paparch, this version features two layers—a light cheese souffle and a creamier cheese mousse—set on a crunchy cookie base for a contrast of textures.

Air-flown in from Japan, the dessert is designed to be eaten at different stages—frozen, slightly softened, or fully thawed—each offering a different texture and taste.

Prices for the Cheese Wonder Original start at $35.90 for four pieces, while a six-piece gift box goes for $53.90. On the first bite, we were hit with an intense milky flavour that Hokkaido dairy is known for. When served frozen, the cheesecake took on a firmer, ice cream-like consistency, with a flavour that reminded us of Tokyo Milk Cheese Factory’s vanilla soft serve.

We were told that the dessert is best enjoyed slightly softened, where the texture turns smooth and creamy. We let it sit for 10 minutes at room temperature before it gradually softened into a velvety consistency. At this point, the cheese flavour came through more clearly, with a fuller, milky richness that still felt light on the palate. The crust softened slightly, too, but held a gentle bite for contrast.

When fully thawed for roughly 20 minutes, the cheesecake was more indulgent while still holding its shape. Each bite melted easily in the mouth, and we could pick up more of the crunchy cookie crust—well-baked with a subtle caramelised flavour. While the cookie base is made with almond cookies, it was mildly nutty, allowing the cheese to be the main focus.

For a limited time, customers can also try the strawberry version of the dessert, AKA Cheese Wonder Red. This seasonal item is priced at $42.90 for four pieces.

Each piece features a whole Japanese strawberry wrapped in two layers of cheese filling: a light, fresh cheese souffle and a strawberry-infused cheese mousse. It came across as a bright, fruity cheesecake with a gentle tart finish, with a flavour similar to strawberry yoghurt. When fully frozen, it leaned closer to a strawberry sorbet, before gradually softening into a silkier texture as it thawed.

Also available at the pop-up is the WONDER SAND, a crisp almond cookie sandwich filled with fresh cream made from Hokkaido milk and butter, and cheese-flavoured cream. This item is priced at $35.90 for a box of eight.

Compared to the tarts, the cookie was less caramelised and had a denser texture, similar to a biscuit. There was a slight nuttiness from the almond, but the overall flavour stayed fairly mild.

The Cheese Wonder pop-up will be around for eight weeks from 8 May, so those keen to try it may want to head down early.
