As a big fan of fresh fruit drinks, my first instinct whenever I’m thirsty is always to reach for a refreshing cup of juice. When I was in town recently, I came across a new go-to spot: Mangoo at Shaw House, located in the Orchard area.
Hailing from Malaysia, Mangoo is a vibrant-looking dessert kiosk in the mall’s Food Republic, and prides itself on using only fresh mangoes in its desserts. They offer six refreshing mango-based drinks to choose from, alongside soft serve options.
Drinks here come in three different sizes—Mini, Standard, and Regular. Rest assured that everything is made fresh daily using no syrup, allowing the natural sweetness of the mangoes to take centre stage.Â
The best mango shakes I’ve tried are at Bangkok’s night markets, and I can safely say that what you get at Mangoo comes pretty close. As a litmus test, we tried their Mangoo Smoothie Original ($4.90/$5.90/$6.90), and it certainly delivered. There was a perfect balance of tropical sweetness and citrusy tanginess you would expect from quality mangoes, along with a sharp yet pleasant tartness that lingered on the palate.Â
One of the most common pitfalls of a fruit smoothie is that it often ends up too diluted and watery, but Mangoo’s version hit the sweet spot. The drink had a smooth, dense mouthfeel with minimal graininess, making each sip easy to enjoy.
You can take the smoothie’s creaminess a step further with their Mangoo Smoothie Fresh Milk ($5.90/$6.90/$7.90), which has an almost milkshake-like appearance. The milk gently cuts through the richness of the mango flavours without overpowering it, while the addition of soft cubed mangoes—similar to those you find in a mango pomelo dessert—complements the drink well.
We also had their Mangoo Smoothie Yoghurt ($5.90/$6.90/$7.90), which looks almost identical to the previous drink we tried. This beverage features noticeably larger jelly-like mango chunks, and the addition of yoghurt makes the drink thicker and more velvety, resulting in a satisfying finish.Â
If you’re not in the mood for a drink, be sure to try their Original Soft Serve ($1) or Mangoo Yoghurt Soft Serve ($1.50). Both taste as good as they look, delivering the same tropical flavours and creamy smoothness that will leave you licking your lips. You can also enjoy the soft serve in a single bowl ($2.50) or a double bowl ($4.90), with toppings available at an additional cost.Â
With other options such as Mangoo Juice With Dried Plum ($5.90/$6.90) or Mangoo Lychee ($5.90/$6.90) available, Mangoo presents a solid pick for anyone battling the blazing afternoon heat in Orchard, or as the perfect post-dinner drink to wash down a meal. The prices may be slightly on the higher side, but the quality on offer makes the premium worthwhile—after all, you are in Orchard! So the next time you’re about to reach for your mainstream bubble tea option, consider giving Mangoo a try.
