Here’s a fun fact about unagi: the Japanese traditionally believe that eating unagi during the summer months helps give them stamina, and brings relief from the heat and humidity. Here in Singapore, where it’s summer all year round, we can enjoy this tasty delicacy at unagi restaurants such as Una Una.
Go for the Unagi Hitsumabushi ($10.80++/$14.80++/$19.80++), which you can enjoy in three ways: first to savour the eel, then with the provided condiments, and lastly, add some dashi soup in and dig in! On the side, you can also order grilled items, including a whole Hokkaido Grilled Squid ($15.80++), and sushi such as the Philadelphia Roll ($13.80++), topped with torched salmon, and a dollop of cream cheese.

Marutama Ramen is known for its tori paitan, a creamy chicken-based broth that’s paired with house-made noodles, chashu, aji-tamago, scallions, and specially-imported aosa, a type of Japanese seaweed. Their signature Marutama Ramen ($14.50++) is a comforting hug for your stomach that you should try if it’s your first time here. If you want more chashu, top up $4 to get the Char Siu Marutama Ramen at $18.50++, which has three more slices of marinated pork.
Exclusive to the Bugis+ branch is a Beni Chazuke ($8++), where white rice is topped with a jellified salmon bouillabaisse, tobiko, and preserved radish. On the side is a pot of piping hot tori paitan that you pour over the rice, melting the rich salmon essence into an indulgent broth.

Seoul Garden is a familiar name for many of us, having been around since 1983. Known for their grill-and-steamboat buffet concept, they now bring to the table premium, yet affordably priced options. Go for the Premium Grill Bundle ($103++), now priced at $65++, that’s good for two to share. This works out to be just $32.50++ per person, and comes with Wagyu marushin, or sirloin tip, which has a marbling score of six, and Wagyu karubi, AKA brisket, with a marbling score of five!
Besides the Wagyu, there’s also Mala Kimchi Chicken Chop, Salmon Fillet, Tiger Prawns, and even a whole jug of cold Korean Barley Tea that’s perfect to wash down the grilled feast. Otherwise, the Ultimate Sampling Platter ($78++) features the best of Seoul Garden’s beef selection. This platter includes US Super Prime Striploin, and Wagyu in the following cuts: zabuton, or chuck eye roll, picanha, the rump cap, and rostbiff━the rump. All the meats on this sampler have marbling scores of seven and above, out of the highest possible of 12.
