Here’s a PSA for dessert lovers: popular cakeshop Cake Spade has stopped operations at their Chinatown location and moved to spanking new premises in Tanjong Pagar! The popular cake shop sits on the first floor of Orchid Hotel, which is right across from Tanjong Pagar MRT Station.
Originally in Tanjong Pagar for around 10 years, Cake Spade moved to Chinatown in mid-2022. Just last month, they announced the closing of their shop, to much dismay of many fans. Thankfully, a week later, they posted on their social media that they were reopening on 14 February 2023.
The new Cake Spade store is cosy, with an array of cakes and brownies on display. You’ll find a simple and relaxed seating area outside the store so that you can enjoy their sweet treats alfresco too.Â
Try their signature Strawberry Tofu Cheesecake ($8.80), a simple dessert of no-bake cheesecake topped with strawberry jelly and fresh strawberries. If you’re not a big fan of strong cheese, consider getting this one because it is light on the palette. For special occasions, you can also get this as a heart-shaped cake (from $85).
For something more classic, consider the evergreen Strawberry Shortcake ($8.80) which features a vanilla angelfood cake, layered with chantilly cream and strawberries.Â
Then there’s Nutella Cheesecake Cookie Tart ($9.80), which is super rich and extremely satisfying for Nutella fans. I’ve been told that this is also popular with tourists.
If you want something even more indulgent, get their Biscoff Cookie Midnight Brownie with a scoop of vanilla or salted caramel ice cream. The black cocoa brownie is decadent and dense, packed with Biscoff cookies. This set goes for $10.80, though you can get the brownie on its own for $5.90.Â
Cake Spade has a new and improved drinks menu too! Try their Matcha Honey Yuzu ($8.50), a smoothie made with tangy yuzu and matcha. Alternatively, they have freshly brewed iced teas to offset the richness of their sweet treats, including the sweet and floral Lychee Earl Grey ($7.90).Â
Cake Spade made headlines when they launched their Comic Cake, a mango and strawberry cake that’s baked to look like a 2D printout. While this cake is only available during their promotional period, an improved version will be back on 9 March 2023, when Cake Spade celebrates the grand opening of their new outlet and 10th anniversary. Be sure to keep your eye on their IG page for their updates.Â
If you’re looking for more cafes in Tanjong Pagar, consider Natter Coffee & Gelato, a new minimalist cafe with Korean rice gelato and hojicha waffles. Otherwise, for something more old-school, read our Rolina Traditional Hainanaese Curry Puffs review!
