We Try The New Calbee Asian Flavours Wagyu And Sriracha Chips To See If They Taste Legit

Calbee launches new Asian Flavours potato chips

Last November, Calbee launched their Asian Flavours series, a limited-edition range of Singapore-exclusive potato chips inspired by the dishes and sauces we love across the region. The first wave—Korean Fried Chicken and Yuzu Kosho—proved to be a hit, so it’s no surprise the Japanese snack giant is back with a follow-up: Wagyu Beef and Sriracha chips.

The Wagyu Beef flavour caught our eye first, because, naturally, who doesn’t love the ability to be bougie on a budget? Beef and steak-flavoured chips are a dime a dozen, so we were curious to see how Calbee would recreate Wagyu’s signature rich, buttery, slightly smoky flavour profile in chip form.

To our surprise, they hit the brief. While it doesn’t literally taste like Wagyu, these chips hit all the notes we associate with the fatty, premium cut of steak.

It’s smoky and deeply meaty, with a slight sweetness that rounds everything out.

Next up, the Sriracha. This one packs a punch right from the first bite, with a tangy, garlicky heat that lingers on the palate. It’s not overwhelmingly spicy, but there’s enough kick to keep things interesting. As for whether it tastes like the hot sauce? We’re happy to report that it’s a very close match.

If Calbee’s Hot & Spicy is your go-to potato chip flavour, you definitely want to give the Sriracha a shot.

Both flavours come in large-format 170g bags, so they’re great for sharing during movie nights or gatherings. Plus, they’re halal-certified, which means more snackers can get in on the action.

You can find the Calbee Asian Flavours series at all major supermarkets and convenience stores. Prices vary according to the retailer.

As mentioned, these are limited edition and available while stocks last, so if either flavour sounds like your kind of snack, don’t wait too long to get your hands on them.

Keep updated with new Calbee launches!
