Catusbakery: Home Baker Makes Carbonara And Black Sesame Salted Egg Bao Flavours

Carbonara baos at Catusbakery

We’ve seen a boom of home bakers ever since the Circuit Breaker last year. Joining the list is Catusbakery, with carbonara and black sesame salted egg baos. These are available for delivery at $10 islandwide, excluding Sentosa. Alternatively, you can opt for self-collection at their home in Bedok.

These buns go for $2.20 each, and you can get them cold or frozen. Cold buns are to be stored in the fridge, and require a shorter reheating time. Do note that they have to be consumed within three days. Meanwhile, frozen buns take longer to reheat, and can be kept in the freezer for up to three weeks.

The Cheesy Carbonara Bao sees a soft bun encasing stretchy cheddar, savoury from the carbonara sauce, with bits of ham within. If you’re concerned that it might get jelak quickly, fret not, as there are spring onions to cut through the heaviness of the bao.

Meanwhile, the When Black Meets Orange Bao is Catusbakery’s take on liu sha baos, with a black sesame twist. For those who are health conscious, you’ll be glad to know that the home baker has added pumpkin puree into their salted egg mixture, dialling down on the fat and calorie content. There’s also a layer of housemade black sesame paste within, said to be earthy and fragrant.

If you’re interested in snapping up these baos, drop a DM to their Instagram account or send an email to catusbakery@gmail.com.

For more scrumptious bakes, check out Le Matin Patisserie, a newly-opened bakery in Outram Park with kouign amann and pistachio escargots. There’s also our Crolo review, for milo dinosaur and salted egg yolk croffles.
