Ice-cream is always a welcome relief when temperatures hit above 30°C, and Creamier Handcrafted Ice Cream and Coffee has always been one of my beloved ice-cream haunts to cool down at. I was thus deeply saddened when I found out that its pioneer store in Toa Payoh will be shutting its doors on 30 June 2019.
Snuggled under a HDB block in the sleepy neighbourhood of Toa Payoh, Creamier has been wow-ing foodies with their array of handcrafted desserts, including crowd-pleasers such as Plain Ole Chocolate and Butterscotch Almond, since they first opened.
What many fans love and will miss about Creamier is their Double Stacked Thick Waffles ($6). As the batter is prepared with pure butter, fresh cream, and eggs, these waffles effuse a buttery fragrance, pleasing your taste buds with a rich and eggy flavour.
Ice-cream and waffles aside, it is the space and memories formed here that most of us will fondly miss. Since it opened its doors in October 2011, the cafe has slowly become a familiar feature of Toa Payoh. It has been a cosy sanctuary for countless batches of students and adults alike to relax with a scoop of ice-cream.
With its absence, block 128 will feel a lot emptier.
A small silver lining is the cafe’s release of a new flavour in commemoration of the OG store’s closure. Like the Sea Salt Gula Melaka and its various predecessors, I’m sure the new concoction will seek to please with its luscious taste.
Wipe those tears away though, as you can still enjoy Creamier’s unique selection of artisanal ice-cream at its remaining two outlets in Tiong Bahru and Gillman Barracks.
