SG’s First AI Supermarket Has Wine Tasting On Tap, “Smart” Shopping Carts And More

AI-powered FairPrice Finest opens at Punggol Coast Mall

If you live in Punggol, you’ll be happy to hear that there’s a new spot for you to shop and dine at. Dubbed the Store of Tomorrow, FairPrice Finest has recently opened their latest outlet at Punggol Coast Mall, featuring a unique range of AI-powered tech and exclusive F&B offerings.

As you enter the store, you’ll be sure to spot one of their new AI-powered Smart Carts. Each cart comes with a built-in touchscreen display and scanner, which you can use to browse and purchase products. Do note that the carts work hand in hand with the FairPrice Group mobile app, which you can download for free from Google Play or the Apple App Store.

If you find yourself getting lost amongst the busy supermarket aisles, fret not, as the Smart Carts have a navigational system, too. Just select or type in the name of the product you’re looking for, then tap on “Go there”, and a map will pop up on your screen with live directions to the item.

As you approach the product, a flickering red light will appear on its price tag. Do remember to scan the item before placing it in your cart.

While trying out the feature, we stumbled upon their International zone, featuring a large Lotte section, with Korean favourites such as the Sweet Potato Shaped Snack ($1.75) from the Lotte Good Today snack range.

The store has several Generative AI shopping assistants, too. One example is the Unity Wellness Genie, which offers personalised health tips based on your actual body composition, measured in-house at the Active Monitoring Zone.

The health advice is also paired with supplement recommendations, which are available in-store.

If you love your booze, head to the wine section at level two, and scan one of the QR codes for the Digital Wine Sommelier.

Here, you’ll receive wine recommendations tailored to your preferences. You can even get advice on the best food pairings for your bubbly.

Don’t miss out on their Tasting Stations for wine and cocktail samples on tap!

Flavours rotate every so often, and are priced at $3 per 25ml for wines and $2 per 25ml for cocktails.

For something more substantial, order one of The Grocer Bar’s outlet-exclusive cocktails.

The Punggol Blue ($15) stars a zesty-sweet blend of Hendrick’s Gin, coconut water, and lime juice, while the Punggol Spritz ($15) features a fruity concoction of Hendrick’s Grand Cabaret Gin, white peach syrup, and sparkling wine, finished with a dash of gold dust.

Before leaving, grab a snack at The Grocer Cafe, a mini in-house cafe run by home-grown brand Edith Patisserie.

We enjoyed the crumbly Matcha Lava Muffin ($3.80), which had a runny, earthy-sweet matcha core.

The Strawberry Ajisai Matcha ($8.80) was also delicious, pairing Niko Neko matcha with a tangy-sweet strawberry jam.

FairPrice Finest’s newest outlet is located at Tower 98 of Punggol Coast Mall, a four-minute walk from Punggol Coast MRT Station.
