10 Film- And TV-Themed Cafes To Dine At With Your Favourite Character

Film- and TV-themed cafes to relive your favourite scene

Being a Potterhead, I was elated when I found out about the existence of Singapore’s first Harry Potter-themed cafe – finally a place where I can re-enact my favourite spells from the movie and wave a wand around without being judged! This got me motivated to create a list of TV-themed cafes for fangirls and boys like me, because the only thing better than eating and watching your favourite TV show is eating and being in your favourite TV show.

1. Central Perk Cafe

Step into American sitcom Friends at Central Perk Cafe. Apart from being the prime hangout spot for the group of six, true fans would know that Rachel Green clinched her first job here in season one. The interior here features specific places and items related to characters, and extends to feature other sets such as Monica’s kitchen. Food-wise, go for Joey’s “Ride Along” Sandwich ($18++), which is essentially a meatball sub sandwich stated as “the best sandwich in the world” by Joey in season five.

2. Charlie Brown Cafe

Watch an episode of the cartoon while enjoying Snoopy’s Chocolate ($9.80). Each thin crepe encases melted chocolate shavings, and is accompanied by a scoop of chocolate ice-cream.

3. The Little Prince Cafe

Pamper yourself with some me-time in the minimalist setting of The Little Prince Creamery. Decorated with white furniture and drawings of The Little Prince’s adventures, this is where to head to for some peace and quiet. Have a cuppa while browsing through The Little Prince books, or go with Ham and Cheese Waffles ($7.90) if you need something more substantial.

4. Hungry Heroes

Fully decorated with superhero errthang, Hungry Heroes is an alternative to the Hall of Heroes museum in America. Whether you swear your allegiance to Marvel or DC, you’ll be able to take photos with your favourite character here. Eat like a superhero and start your meal with Clash Of The Potato, Mayo And Scallions ($7+), which features potato cubes cooked in duck fat and tossed with kewpie mayonnaise. Another must-try is Mother of all Chicken Burgers ($32+). This huge burger comes with two thick slabs of fried chicken thighs, sunny side up, cheese, coleslaw, caramelised onions, bacon, tomato and cajun mayonnaise squeezed between a burger bun.

5. Gudetama Cafe

Nua (laze) on egg-shaped chairs and booths at Gudetama Cafe, or if you are a fan like me, whip out your phone and snap away. The iconic lazy egg is featured in “I’m Cold” Smoked Salmon Benedict ($26.90++) as poached eggs snugly wrapped in smoked salmon and nestled comfortably on top of mashed avocado brioche toast. Doused in a good serving of yuzu hollandaise sauce, being an egg has never seemed cosier.

6. Platform 1094

Get spellbound at Platform 1094, a cafe inspired by the Harry Potter series. Knock yourself out with props such as wands, witch and wizard hats, and melted candle wax. Whisper incendio and give your wand a wave before sprinkling cinnamon powder into Goblet of Fire ($15+, contains alcohol) and watch flames ignite in your drink! Don’t worry, muggles are allowed to enter, so gather all your Potterhead friends and make a reservation ASAP.

8. Hello Kitty Orchid Garden Cafe

Hang out with this iconic kitty at Hello Kitty Orchid Garden Cafe, which has a pretty floral theme to match our Garden City and national flower. My favourite main is Cowabunga Wagyu ($24++), made up of wagyu beef rendang, Japanese rice, and salad with ponzu sauce. End your meal with the beautifully plated Hide & Seek ($16.90++), which includes pandan panna cotta, gula melaka and vanilla gelato.

Grab your bestie down to dal.komm COFFEE and share a Cruffin Matcha ($11.50) – a croissant and muffin hybrid – with Wolf and Rabbit plushies at your table. Song Joong Ki might not show up, but hey, at least the food and coffee is jeongmal mashisseo (really delicious)!

No need to be part of the cast at these film- and TV-themed cafes!

With these themed cafes, you don’t have to be Monica in Friends, or the pilot in The Little Prince to be a part of your favourite show. Check out these cafes with friends who love the same show as you, and let us know in the comments section if you guys know of other cafes like these!
