If you haven’t heard of Folks & Stories prior to this, it’s time to check them out. Previously only at Everton Park, you can now find their bakes at a second store in Toa Payoh Central.
Initially a part-time project in university for owner Jody and her husband, after being inspired by the sweet treats they enjoyed while on exchange in Europe, Folks And Stories became a full-time gig after they graduated in 2018.
It all started with her husband’s love for butter cookies, which led to her wanting to bake for him so he could enjoy them without the additives in store-bought varieties. Today, Folks And Stories holds true to this—their bakes are prepared with only natural ingredients, with no artificial flavouring or colourings. Plus, they only use French butter, Belgian couverture chocolate, as well as handmade jams and reductions.
The cookies at Folks & Stories are characterised by their soft-baked finish, with light, crunchy edges and soft, chewy centres. There’s Nutty Professor ($4.50), a brown butter cookie sandwiched with a house-made roasted pistachio ganache, that’s inspired by Jody’s husband, while My Kooky Boo ($4.50) is a biscoff cheesecake cookie with pecan and almond granola—fun fact: Jody initially sold her homemade granola on Folks & Stories when they had first returned from exchange!
Another cheesecake cookie is Curious Merrymaker ($4.50), where a dark chocolate cookie sports tangy cheesecake swirls. Care Bear ($4.90), a ruby pink confection, is a strawberry cheesecake cookie with strawberry reduction and butter crumble.
Then there are the brownies at Folks & Stories: Three Year Old ($5.50), created for their third anniversary, layers chocolate brownie with passionfruit cheesecake and a salted cookie crust; Zealous Trickster ($5.90) and Charming Teaser ($5.90) are black sesame and hojicha blondies respectively, paired with yuzu and matcha cheesecakes!
Each month’s flavours are sold in boxes of six ($31), though you could also customise your box, with the price for this starting from $25.20 depending on what you pick. If you go for a Signature Assortment ($26) box, this would exclude the monthly special flavours.
Standard delivery is priced at $9 a location for orders below $85, otherwise delivery is free. Or you could pick up your orders directly at their Everton Park or Toa Payoh outlets, where you can also pick up individual bakes! Do note that there aren’t any dine-in seats.
