1.Springleaf Prata Place

Springleaf Prata Place is a well-known name for tasty prata. While there are several stores islandwide, the outlet at Junction 10 is conveniently located next to Bukit Panjang MRT Station.

Aside from selling usual variants of the South-Indian flatbread, the prata specialist also whips up a mean Plaster Blaster ($5.50). This unique interpretation of an eggs Benedict features a crispy plain prata that’s topped with two slices of ham and a heavy spoonful of creamy Hollandaise sauce. This tangy combination is surprisingly tasty, and is a favourite with many customers.

Address: 1 Woodlands Road, #01-25, Junction 10, Singapore 677899
Opening hours: Daily 8am to 10pm
Tel: 6570 6554

2. Jalan Kayu Prata Cafe

Another prata eatery to check out in the West is Jalan Kayu Prata Cafe. They dish up prata house classics such as thosai, roti john, and Milo Godzilla. This restaurant is air-conditioned, so you can catch up with your mates in comfort.

Kick back with a cup of Teh Halia ($1.50) and chow down on a few pieces of their extra fluffy Plain Prata ($1.10) that go best with a dip of their flavourful fish curry.

Address: 154 West Coast Road, #B1-09, West Coast Plaza, Singapore 127371
Opening hours: Daily 9am to 9pm
Tel: 9151 8134

3. West Co’z Cafe

Thai-Chinese family restaurant, West Co’z Cafe, offers something for everyone. Opened by the people behind Segar Restaurant, this joint sells the same curry fish head that the popular halal-certified restaurant is renowned for.

The Curry Fish Head ($22+) is served bubbling hot, and comes loaded with vegetables and tau pok. A hunk of red snapper head can be found inside, and it packs moist and succulent meat that soaks up the rich curry gravy.

Address: 154 West Coast Road, #02-23, West Coast Plaza, Singapore 127371
Opening hours: Daily 11:30am to 9:30pm
Tel: 6779 1303

4. Xin Wang Hong Kong Cafe

Food options for late-night gatherings are usually limited to coffee shops and prata houses. Xin Wang Hong Kong Cafe is open till 2am, making it great to pop by for a filling meal with exciting Hong Kong-style dishes.

Their Honey French Toast ($4.50) has been a crowd favourite ever since the chain opened in 2005. This eggy bread is topped with a generous slab of butter and drizzled with lashings of sweet honey. It’s best to share this with two to three people.

Address: 154 West Coast Road, #B1-04, West Coast Plaza, Singapore 127371
Opening hours: Daily 11am to 2am
Tel: 6779 1526

5. Thonglor Thai Cuisine & Seafood

For an exciting taste of Thai cuisine, check out Thonglor Thai Cuisine & Seafood that’s known for serving up affordably priced dishes at impressive portions. There’re also plenty of favourites to choose from their expansive menu.

I usually get a serving of deep-fried sea bass whenever I dine at Thai restaurants, and the Thonglor Pla Thod Lad Prik ($19.90) deserves a special mention here. This flavourful dish comprises a whole sea bass that is deep-fried and drenched with a copious amount of sweet Thai chilli sauce. Combining sweet, spicy, and sour flavours, this tasty treat goes well with steamed rice.

Address: 154 West Coast Road, #02-25, West Coast Plaza, Singapore 127371
Opening hours: Daily 11am to 10pm
Tel: 6252 2552

6. Shi Li Fang Hot Pot

The nature of hotpot meals means that there is always plenty of long and meaningful conversations over the dining table. Shi Li Fang Hot Pot is a Taiwanese hotpot chain that is popular for their affordable and attractive variety of steamboat set meals. I also like how their soup bases come without MSG.

Each order comes with plenty of meat and seafood, as well as a vegetable platter, noodles or rice, and drink. Prices start at $9.90++ for one diner, but you can always choose to jazz it up and add as many dishes as you’d like for an additional price.

Address: 1 Woodlands Road, #01-32, Junction 10, Singapore 677899
Opening hours: Daily 10am to 10pm

7. Wine Connection Bistro

Catching up with friends over a tipple is always a nice idea. Wine Connection Bistro packs an extensive wine list, and also serves up hearty Western dishes, making it an ideal place for doing just that.

Sharing plates are featured quite heavily here, and you can get their Meat Lovers Platter ($49++) that is enough for two to three people. This tasty feast features a wide variety of meats, which include a 250g Australian black Angus sirloin, lamb cutlets, BBQ pork ribs, and a Cumberland sausage.

Address: 4 Hillview Rise, #02-05/06, HillV2, Singapore 667979
Opening hours: Daily 11:30am to 11pm
Tel: 6710 7138

8. Joyden Canton Kitchen

Serving up classic Cantonese dishes, Joyden Canton Kitchen has been a favourite among Westies since it opened in 2014. This popular family restaurant is known to attract a crowd during weekends, so be sure to head down early or make a reservation beforehand.

The Signature Traditional Rice Vermicelli with Poached Egg White, Crabmeat and Scallop ($15.80++) might look deceivingly simple, but requires an expert hand to impart a subtle touch of wok hei to the dish. You can choose to jazz it up by adding a dash of black vinegar and black pepper for an extra bit of flavour.

Address: 4 Hillview Rise, #02-21, HillV2, Singapore 667979
Opening hours: Daily 11:30am to 3:15pm, 5pm to 9:30pm
Tel: 6465 9988

9. Stärker Bistro

Stärker Bistro is always a good place to chill out over an ice-cold pint and hearty grub. Their German-style beers are all freshly brewed in Singapore, with classic flavours alongside unique ones such as lychee available.

You can also find popular German dishes such as pork knuckle here, but be sure to try their Singapore Chilli Crab Pasta ($22.80++). My favourite component has to be the shatteringly crispy soft shell crab that goes great with the rich and briny sauce. A whole runny yolk is also served with the pasta, giving it an added touch of creaminess when tossed together.

Address: 4 Hillview Rise, #01-02, HillV2, Singapore 667979
Opening hours: Mon-Thurs 12pm to 12am, Fri-Sun 12pm to 1am
Tel: 6336 8550

10. Kinsa Sushi

Sourcing their wagyu directly from Japan, Kinsa Sushi is a Japanese restaurant in the tranquil HillV2 mall. This cosy restaurant serves not only Japanese beef, but also a plentiful selection of sashimi, sushi, and other Japanese dishes.

There’s no need to be afraid of breaking the bank here. Their Wagyu Don ($26.90++) is affordably priced for the quality you’re getting, and features generous strips of pan-seared Kagoshima A4 Wagyu Beef.

Address: 4 Hillview Rise, #02-02, HillV2, Singapore 667979
Opening hours: Mon-Fri 11:30am to 3pm, 5:30pm to 10pm, Sat-Sun 11:30am to 10pm
Tel: 6710 7278

11. iO Italian Osteria

Heading over to iO Italian Osteria is like going to a friend’s house. The warm service, rustic ambience, and homely fare makes anyone feel right at home.

I have a few must-order dishes here, and the Porchetta Baked Pork Belly, Wild Fennel ($9++ for half, $18++ for full portion) is one of them. This tasty dish features a thick slab of pork roast that’s stuffed with aromatic wild fennel, and slow-roasted till the skin is crispy. I also like dipping it into the mustard sauce for a kick of spiciness.

Address: 4 Hillview Rise, #02-01, HillV2, Singapore 667979
Opening hours: Mon-Fri 11:30am to 10pm, Sat-Sun 10am to 10pm
