Westies rejoice! A new coffeeshop with some of the most popular hawker brands has popped up in Bukit Batok. Offering some of Singapore’s most famous hokkien mee, bak kut teh, chicken rice, and more, Get Together Coffee Shop has been bustling since its opening on 10 February.

Here are some stalls you can look forward to:

1. Nam Sing Fried Hokkien Mee

Their first stall in Western Singapore, Nam Sing Hokkien Fried Mee is serving up their famous Hokkien Mee ($5/$8/$10) here. The hokkien mee is fried with yellow noodles and thin bee hoon, following a recipe that’s older than Singapore herself. Enjoy the dish with cut red chilli if you desire some spice in your life, or have it on its own to experience the subtle touch of wok hei.

2. Jiak Song Mee Hoon Kway

Ever since its success in Telok Blangah, Jiak Song Mee Hoon Kway has been rapidly expanding, with the outlet here being its seventh opening in two years. The popular stall will offer their Signature All-In Combo Soup Mee Hoon Kway ($5), which comes with ingredients such as pork slices, pork balls, and shrimp balls. If you haven’t had the opportunity to try MasterChef finalist Aaron Wong’s mee hoon kway because it’s always been too far away, this is your chance to get it!

3. Tiong Bahru Hainanese Boneless Chicken Rice

It seems as if it was only a while ago that we covered Tiong Bahru Hainanese Boneless Chicken Rice’s new opening in Ang Mo Kio, but it is almost as if they responded to our wish of them opening in the West. The same tender and juicy chicken is available here when you have their Signature Steamed Chicken Rice ($3.50), which is best paired with a chilli dip. Expect long queues here though, as it appears that all the Westies have swarmed to the Bukit Batok outlet to try the famed chicken rice.

4. Chef Wei HK Cheong Fun

Chef Wei HK Cheong Fun is another hawker brand that has been leaving its mark across Singapore. As with all the other branches, the outlet at Get Together Coffee Shop also has four items on the menu—Plain Cheong Fun ($3), Char Siew Cheong Fun ($4), Mushroom Cheong Fun ($4), and Prawn Cheong Fun ($5). Don’t be daunted by the long queues, as the preparation time for each chee cheong fun is quite short.

5. Chef Kin HK Wanton Noodle

This kopitiam also houses Chef Kin HK Wanton Noodle, for customers that want Crystal Jade-quality noodles at coffeeshop prices. Try their HK Wanton Noodle Soup ($5) and HK Dumpling Noodle Soup ($5), which have generous portions. The noodles here are also handmade using duck eggs instead of chicken eggs, which gives them a richer flavour.

6. Rong Cheng Rou Gu Cha

If you are looking for good bak kut teh in Bukit Batok, look no further than Rong Cheng Rou Gu Cha. This well-known stall has been involved in the BKT scene for almost 50 years, ever since its first stall located in Sin Ming. The bak kut teh here is done in the Teochew style, which is more peppery and less salty. Meat lovers should order the Dragon Rib Soup ($9), which gets you a tender and juicy piece of loin ribs, perfect for unabashedly biting off the bone.

Famous hawker food in Bukit Batok

Get Together Coffee Shop is located 15 minutes away by bus from Bukit Batok MRT Station, which is unfortunately not very convenient. However, if you live in the West, this beats travelling halfway across Singapore to satisfy your hawker cravings!

The coffeeshop only allows a maximum of two people per group for dining in for the time being. So if you want to jio all your Westie friends to feast, it’s probably best to wait for the Covid-19 restrictions for dining-in to ease, or dapao up to someone’s place.
