Straight from the heart of Ipoh, the iconic Guan Heong Biscuit Shop has finally made its debut in Singapore, at all outlets of the renowned Ipoh-based restaurant chain, Shan Cheng.

Founded in 1819, Guan Heong Biscuit Shop in Ipoh has a rich history spanning over 100 years. The bakery is renowned for its traditional delicacies, such as heong piah, salted tau sar piah, peanut candy, sweet sesame crispies, sweet rice crispies, bridal cakes, mooncakes, and more. Today, the bakery offers over 200 products, delighting customers across Malaysia and Singapore.

One of the must-try items that’s available in Singapore is the Meat Floss with Lotus Paste Biscuit ($13.80), which comes in a box of nine pieces. You get a flaky pastry filled with a rich, velvety lotus paste and topped with fragrant, tender meat floss.

I never knew lotus paste could come in green, so that unexpected pop of colour was a delightful surprise. The creamy, nutty richness of the lotus paste was perfectly balanced by the savoury meat floss. These pastries boasted a light, flaky texture and unique taste. 

Not forgetting the classics, you’d have to try their GH Traditional Tau Sar Pheah ($3.90) sold as a packet of five.

These iconic crispy, golden-brown pastries are filled with a sweet mung bean paste that’s perfectly balanced with a hint of saltiness. Each bite delivers a delightful crunch followed by a rich, savoury, and slightly sweet flavour!

One of their most popular snacks is the GH Low Sugared Soft Candy ($5.80). These are essentially crispy yet chewy strands of fried batter bound together with a stiff sugar syrup. They offer a delicate sweetness, making them the perfect tea-time treat.

Another highlight is their Phoenix Egg Roll with Seaweed & Meatfloss ($8.80), which gets you eight pieces. These crunchy, golden egg rolls are filled with a savoury blend of fragrant seaweed and sweet meat floss. It’s crunchy and packed with umami notes from the filling.

Last but not least, you’d definitely have to try their GH Original Heong Pheah ($6.80), which gets you 10 pieces. These iconic pastries feature a flaky, golden crust that’s perfectly crisp on the outside, with a warm, sweet-savoury filling inside. The molten maltose syrup and mung bean filling had a rich, aromatic flavour that was irresistibly satisfying—I really couldn’t stop going for more.

These Guan Heong biscuits can be found at all Shan Cheng outlets around Singapore. While you’re there, don’t miss out on some authentic Ipoh fare at the restaurant!
