Hazukido: Famous Japanese-Style Croissant Bakery Opens At Takashimaya

Hazukido opens their first outlet at Ngee Ann City

Singapore has been hit by a croissant wave, with brands serving up different versions of the classic French pastry, from smashed to a croissant-cookie hybrid. If you think you’ve seen all the versions of a croissant there are to offer, we’re here to say sorry, wrong! Because Hazukido is finally here in Singapore at Ngee Ann City.

For those who don’t know, Hazukido is a famous croissant brand known for their Japanese-style interpretations of the flaky French viennoiserie. The brand hails from Taiwan, but now has outlets worldwide, including some in Hong Kong, Macau, Malaysia, and even Canada.

If the name rings a bell, you may know them as the famous croissant shop at MidValley Southkey in Johor Bahru.

Though the brand isn’t from Japan, they adhere to the Japanese culinary philosophy of using premium ingredients and baking in small, limited batches to ensure that the quality of their bakes is consistent. Their buttery croissants are a product of French butter, Japanese flour, and ISO-certified eggs.

In Singapore’s first outlet, you can expect around 20 different croissant flavours. Here are some of our favourites!

This Lemon Meringue Clouds ($6.50) croissant was covered in a zesty meringue, adding a  delightful sweet-tangy crunch to the flaky treat!

The Brown Sugar Mochi ($5.30) was the most enjoyable as the contrast between the crispy, flaky textures of the sugar-coated pastry and the chewy brown sugar mochi within was really good.

Get the Custard ($5.90) flavour for a creamy treat! The velvety whipped custard combined with the fluffy bread left us wanting more.

Durians are in season now, so if you love the fruit, we recommend getting the Premium Durian Custard ($7.80). This one features a sweet and decadent custard mixed with D24 durian flesh that was fragrant and creamy.

Saving the best for the last, the Taro & Pudding ($6.50) was our top pick. This crescent croissant came packed with luscious swirls of yam filling, then crowned with a pudding as the finishing touch.

The pudding looked a tad too sweet at first glance, but worry not as it wasn’t cloying. Instead, it added a delicate texture to the otherwise rich and chunky filling.

The kiosk is located in the basement of Ngee Ann City. It’s the first stall you see just as you exit the underpass from Wisma Atria.
