Whenever someone mentions rosti, Marche’s iconic, but pricey, pan-fried potato pancakes are usually what comes to mind. That’s why we were glad to learn about Hippopotato, a new home-based cafe in Tampines serving up affordable rosti sets from $8. The home cafe is helmed by an ex-Marche chef!

Although it only opened in December 2025, the home-based business has already garnered over 50 Google reviews, boasting an impressive 5-star rating at the point of writing. Customers rave about the rosti, praising its crispy exterior and generous portion size.

Beyond their plain Golden Classic Rosti (from $8), you’ll find seven other variations on the menu, including meat, seafood, and even unique fusion flavours.

A standout here is the Okonomirosti (from $10.50), which tops crispy and fluffy rosti with a generous drizzle of sweet-savoury okonomiyaki sauce, creamy Japanese mayo, shredded nori, and delicate bonito flakes.

There’s also the locally-inspired Salted Egg Chick Rosti (from $13.50), starring a huge crispy and juicy chicken schnitzel slathered in a creamy, rich salted egg sauce, alongside a dollop of sour cream and the same delicious rosti.

Don’t miss out on their Smoky Chorizo Rosti (from $12.50), which swaps out the chicken schnitzel for a smoky and mildly spicy chorizo.

For something lighter on the palette, get their Smokin’ Rosti (from $13.50) instead: an all-time favourite featuring slices of silky smoked salmon, delicately arranged into a flower-like shape, served with a side of sour cream.

Wash everything down with one of their refreshing beverages, including the sweet-tangy Pomegranate Pop ($3.50) and the Peach Fizz ($3.50), which blends sweet peach with bubbly soda.
