This Hidden Cafe And Roastery In JB Has Tiramisu Croffle, Matcha Financier And More

Hiritsu Coffee Roastery is a hidden industrial cafe in Johor Bahru

Some of the better-known cafes in Johor Bahru include Keijometo and Nimmies Pastry Cafe. If you’ve been to either or both, there’s a hidden cafe within spitting distance of these famed places to check out—Hiritsu Coffee Roastery. Plus, it’s only a 13-minute drive from the customs.

Unlike many TikTok-viral cafes where multiple groups of customers come and go, Hiritsu Coffee Roastery offers a slow and quiet environment to take a breather from our on-the-go lifestyle. Their space isn’t flashy with loud, fancy props; instead, there’s fun in spotting cute posters in every corner of this minimalist, industrial cafe.

One of my favourite things about Hiritsu Coffee Roastery is their hand brew bar. I recall having fun watching the baristas prepare our drinks from scratch! My colleague and I tried their Shaddock Gathered Coffee (RM18+/~S$5.10) first, which is essentially cold brew coffee prepared with tonic water and pomelo, then topped with a velvety, milky cream.

This one was really interesting—when I took my first sip, a combination of bitterness and acidity from the cold brew hit me. But this was quickly replaced by the sweetness of the cream, followed by bits of pomelo.

For the perfect quencher, I recommend the Running Peach (RM18+/~S$5.10). I was surprised to know that this, too, was made with cold brew as it tasted more like a fresh fruit ade instead. The cold brew is mixed with tonic water, and then beautifully topped with a thin slice of lime, peach, and ginger flower. In case you were wondering, the flower is edible!

During our visit, we saw a couple of customers digging into the popular Bring Me Go Croffle (RM18+/~S$5.10), which naturally piqued my curiosity.

This dessert features a croffle base with a scoop of Häagen-Dazs vanilla ice cream, and a ladyfinger biscuit right on top of everything yummy. It also comes with a side of chocolate sauce for you to either drizzle or dip your dessert into.

The concept of the aforementioned dessert was unique, but what truly stole our hearts was their Matcha Financier (RM12+/~S$3.40).

Generously packed with flowy matcha lava, we liked that the molten centre was neither too bitter nor dense. If you’re a matcha lover, you could easily finish one on your own as it wasn’t jelak at all. Else, there’s the Seasalt Coco Financier, also priced at RM12+/~S$3.40.
