Nasi padang, listen up: the legendary Hjh Maimunah has just opened an outlet at VivoCity mall! You’ll find it within the mall’s Kopitiam, under the name Hjh Maimunah Mini—the brand’s food court spinoff.

For the uninitiated, Hjh Maimunah has been around since 1992, named after the founder’s mother, and is now a household name when it comes to traditional kampong-style Malay food. It was a frequent fixture on the Michelin Bib Gourmand, and it’s not hard to see why. Expect a hearty spread of meats, vegetables, and sides to build your perfect plate of nasi padang.

A favourite at their other outlets is the Beef Rendang Set, where fork-tender chunks of beef are slow-cooked in a thick, aromatic gravy. Equally popular is the Fish Set and Seafood Set, which gets you sambal sotong or sambal prawns. According to a photo on Google Maps, the new VivoCity branch also has Sambal Prawn Set ($7.50) and Chicken Set ($8). All of these sets come with rice and two sides of your choice.

To balance your meal, consider getting vegetable dishes such as the smoky-spicy Terung Sambal Balado—fried eggplant topped with fiery red sambal—or the comforting Sayur Lodeh, a coconut-based Javanese curry.

Don’t miss out on their addictive Begedel, a golden-brown potato patty that’s crisp on the outside and fluffy within. The stall also offers some legit Indonesian drinks, perfect for washing away all the heavy flavours.
