Popular Taiwanese Eatery Isshin Machi Opens In Upper Thomson

Isshin Machi has opened in Upper Thomson

If you’re a foodie, then you’re likely familiar with Upper Thomson, a stretch that offers a wide array of dining choices. Joining the slew of eateries here is Isshin Machi, bringing legit Taiwanese food to the ‘hood. This is their seventh outlet, after locations in East Coast, GR.iD, Holland Village, Greenwood, Waterway Point, and Serangoon Gardens.

From the national Taiwanese dish of lu rou fan to the beloved zhen zhu nai cha (bubble tea), Isshin Machi is sure to satisfy all your cravings without having to travel to Taiwan.

First up is their signature dish, Hakka-style Braised Meat Rice ($11.70), AKA lu rou fan━a standard item to try when you’re at a Taiwanese restaurant.

For those unfamiliar with the dish, this comes with short-grain pearl rice topped with fatty braised pork. There’s also preserved vegetables and fresh cucumber, which cut through the greasiness of the lu rou.

A must-try is their Shrimp and Pork Wonton Noodles with Fiery Chilli Oil ($13.10), for fans of bold and robust flavours. This comes tossed in a special savoury sauce with a hint of vinegar and spice.

You get the option to choose between two different types of noodle: the thinner Normal la mian, and a thicker Guan Miao Noodle that’s reminiscent of knife-cut noodles. For those who can’t tahan too much spice, there’s a spice-free option—Shrimp and Pork Wonton Noodles with House Made Sauce ($12.90) for you to try too!

Fans of Din Tai Fung’s egg fried rice will be happy to know that Isshin Machi also serves Fried Rice with Specially Marinated Pork Chop ($15.90).

Don’t leave without trying Brown Sugar Caramel Pearl Milk Tea ($5.10) to wash down the rich food with some sugar. After all, bubble tea is one of Taiwan’s most-loved drinks.
