These restaurants are well-known too, so you’ll def’ want to check them all out.


1. Tajimaya Yakiniku


Treat yourself to a meaty feast at Japanese charcoal-grill restaurant Tajimaya Yakiniku. Known for serving premium cuts of meat, a must-order is their Kurobuta Pork ($49.90++ for one, $99.80++ for two diners). Photographed is a platter for two ravenous carnivores, which features kurobuta pork belly, pork jowl, pork loin as well as pork collar. To balance it all out, you will also get side dishes including salad, chilled silken tofu, sashimi, tempura, chawanmushi and garlic fried rice.

From now to 31 March 2019, Maybank Cardmembers can cinch 40% off every fourth set ordered when they visit between Sunday and Thursday. 2. Irodori


At $38.80++, Irodori’s à la carte lunch buffet won’t burn a hole in your pocket. What attracts hungry folks to this buffet is the wide selection of dishes. Start off your feast with their Sashimi Moriawase, which comes replete with salmon, tuna, sword fish and octopus. Then, fill up on their signature Irodori Maki and hand rolls. Each diner is also presented with a complimentary piece of ebi mentaiyaki that’s highlighted by a thick layer of creamy torched mentaiko.

Maybank Cardmembers dining here get to enjoy 15% off the total lunch bill, making the buffet even more affordable. Alternatively, if you’re coming by for dinner, you get 10% off their à la carte dishes too.

3. Ramen Nagi


A famous ramen chain in Japan, Ramen Nagi pushes out hearty bowls of ramen with a quirky twist. The Green King ($15.90++) is one of a kind, as tonkotsu broth is combined with grated parmesan cheese and fresh basil. For a hint of spice and a whole load of umami, order the Black King ($15.90++), which features blackened garlic, squid ink, and a blend of peppery spices. Stay true to ramen roots with the Original Butao King ($13.90++) showcasing the scrumptious broth as it is.

4. Flaming Don


Flaming Don specialises in Japanese rice bowls, or donburi for short. Here, pretty bowls are packed full with fluffy white Japanese rice and tender charcoal grilled meat. A must-order is their Signature Flaming Beef Don ($17.90+) boasting dice cut Australian tenderloin in a tantalising honey black pepper sauce. If you’re on a tighter budget, the Miso Buta Yaki Don ($10.90+) or Teriyaki Chicken Don ($10.90+) will also satisfy.

5. KURO Izakaya


Izakaya is Japanese for gastrobar, and KURO Izakaya is a hot spot for dinner and drinks. Line your tummy before nursing that glass of Japanese whisky with scrummy mains, such as the tantalising Truffle Pork Ramen ($22++). Redolent of earthy truffle aroma, this bowl of noodles is extremely umami and a joy to slurp up. The Bara Chirashi Don ($15++) is an ideal choice if you’re looking for something lighter on the palate.

6. Nanbantei


First opened on the fifth floor of Far East Plaza in 1968, yakitori specialist Nanbantei now has another outlet at Chinatown Point. The vibe at both spots is great for both date nights and business meetings. Order their Double Course ($72++ for two person) comprising fresh salmon sashimi, 10 sticks of succulent yakitori, grilled fish, and a choice of niku tofu or kimchi tofu hot pot.

7. Suki-Ya


Have a Japanese nabemono hot pot experience at Suki-ya. The affordable buffet ($18.90++ for lunch, $24.90++ for dinner, additional $3++ every Friday to Sunday) presents an array of thinly-sliced chicken, pork, and beef that are served upon order. The broths offered are also unique, where instead of the usual ma la or herbal chicken soup, you get kimuchi and Butaniku to swish your meat in.

Come in a party of four and enjoy 40% off the fourth diner! The promotion is valid until 28 March 2019, between Monday and Thursday from 11:30am to 4pm. However, do note that timing differs for I12 Katong, Marina Square and VivoCity branches, which runs from 11:30am to 3pm.

At $29.90++ for Mon-Thur and $32.90++ for Fri-Sat, this Japanese grill buffet is super value-for-money, especially if you’re a meat lover.
