If a sweet-savoury pork floss bun with sweet mayonnaise filling is all it takes to make your day, you need to check out Jire Handmade, a bakery in Johor Bahru that recently went viral on XiaoHongShu.
The current exchange rate is RM1 = ~S$0.30 as of 24 April 2025.
Look forward to five pork floss bun flavours here, all filled to the brim with the same sweet house-made sauce that’s said to be really creamy.
For an umami-laden treat, go for the Seaweed Little Bae (RM4.50), which comes with bits of crispy, sweet seaweed with a savoury kick. The Walnut Little Bae (RM4.50) is perfect for nut lovers; online reviews laud that the nuttiness helps to quell the creaminess of the snack.
Truffle lovers, go straight for the Truffle Little Bae (RM4.50), which comes in a darker brown shade. It’s said to have a distinct charred taste, adding depth to its earthy truffle notes. Otherwise, the Crab Roe Little Bae (RM4.50) is a lesser-seen flavour that’s worth a try too!
Pork floss buns aside, mochi dessert lovers will love the Tiger Skin Cake Roll (price TBD), featuring a winning combination of stretchy mochi and fluffy pork floss in a pastry, boasting a fun textural variety.
For cold desserts, there’s also the Snowlady for RM8.90 each, which is similar to a Japanese daifuku. This treat comes in a variety of flavours, including Oreo, Mango, Durian, and Strawberry.
Jire Handmade is a 30-minute drive from the customs, but for such mouth-watering pastries that leave you wanting more, your trip down will surely be worth it.
The cafe isn’t the largest, though, with only six dine-in seats. But with Mid Valley Southkey Megamall just a 10-minute drive away, you can snack on them while browsing for souvenirs to bring home!
