If the Circuit Breaker period has taught us anything, it’s not only that work-from-home arrangements have become the norm, but also bake-from-home arrangements as well. In fact, numerous home bakers have leveraged on this trend to become successful bake-preneurs, with Jo-Yi Bakery in particular expanding to open their first physical shop in Hillview.
For starters, they specialise in mochi buns that come in a plethora of fillings, mostly inspired by Taiwanese recipes. Other than those, their baking expertise extends to include croissants, sliders, and even Portuguese egg tarts among others.
You could technically get a full course meal at their bakery, just because they offer variations of both sweet and savoury fillings in their bread, leaving most spoilt for choice. Interesting savoury flavours include Nacho Mashed Potato And Curry Chicken ($2) and even local favourites such as Hei Bee Hiam ($2) are available too.
For those with a sweet tooth, their Sweet Duo Series happens to be a real crowd-pleaser, as you get a mix of two complementary flavours in your bread. I’d recommend you go for the Black Glutinous Sesame ($2), a nutty but slightly sweet combination. Alternatively, to inject a little more colour into your life, go for the Sweet Potato Overload ($2), which blends the goodness of both orange and purple sweet potatoes well.
FYI, don’t miss out on topping up any choice of bread with a dose of their Handmade Signature Mochi ($0.50 per bread), especially after noticing the whole craze of mochi pulls showing up on my IG feed ever so often.
If you’re a greedier eater who wants a taste of everything, you’ll want to look out for their Sweet Bread Bundle Boxes ($24), with a selection that changes every month. Such boxes contain 11 different bread flavours specially curated by the husband-wife baker duo, even including new flavours sometimes.
To get your dose of their fresh bakes, kindly drop them a DM on their Instagram account or a Whatsapp message at 9759 9762 or 8101 5878. Currently, you can arrange for self pick-up at their Hillview outlet or Mountbatten MRT Station.Â
Alternatively, they offer islandwide delivery services, with a flat $8 fee for orders below $20 and a flat $5 fee for those above $20. Your delivery fees will be waived off, for all orders above $50.
For other bakeries around, check out our Roti review for locally-inspired bread flavours such as orh nee in Chinatown. If not, read our Egg Taste review for your taste of Korean egg bread with unique flavours such as durian at West Coast.
