JOFA Meepok first rose to fame when it launched last year, drawing troves of bak chor mee fans to its stall for its zhnged-up mee pok with scallops and prawn paste balls. This time, the young founders have opened a new concept in the Bukit Merah heartlands, JOFA Grill.

The new stall is run by two ex-restaurant chefs, one of whom has worked at Burnt Ends, and the other at the now-defunct, three-Michelin-starred Joël Robuchon.

The focus here is on wood-fired meats, such as their Charcoal-Grilled Chicken Chop ($9.50) and Charcoal-Grilled Ribeye Steak ($14.50). Both mains come with coleslaw and fries. A side of house-made black pepper sauce completes the meal, adding a depth of smokiness to the grilled meat.

Another signature is the JOFA Mashed Potato ($3.50), inspired by the version at Joël Robuchon restaurant. This creamy side is said to be buttery, smooth, and extra flavourful when enjoyed with the black pepper gravy it’s topped with.

Fill up on the carbs by getting the JOFA Aglio Olio ($5.50): mee kia or mee pok tossed in a fragrant olive oil, garlic, and chilli mix. Otherwise, splurge on the JOFA Carbonara ($7.50) or the Thai Red Curry Mud Crab and Tobiko Pasta ($12.50), both featuring mee pok noodles instead of traditional pasta.

Another noteworthy hawker stall to visit in Bukit Merah is Bukit Merah View Carrot Cake, which has been around since the 1950s. If you’re up for handmade bao, read our Hua Ji Bao Dang review for old-school lotus pau and siew mai by a family-run stall in Bukit Merah View.
