We first reviewed and loved JUMBO Seafood ION Orchard’s afternoon tea back in 2020. They refreshed the set in 2022, and have done it yet again—just in time for the festive season! The latest rendition, titled An Extravagant Afternoon Sea Experience, is priced at $49++ per person for JUMBO Rewards members, or $59++ for non-members. It’s available from 3pm to 5pm daily, and there’s a minimum of diners required for this high tea!Â
The set comes with 12 courses, all served in bite-sized portions. Start with the top layer of the tier, where you’ll find Dragonfruit Lobster Salad with Lumpfish Caviar, Crispy Fried Baby Squid, and Chilli Crab Meat Sauce with Sliced Fried Mantou.
Coated in a sticky-sweet sauce and topped with nutty sesame seeds, the crispy baby squid was delectable.
The Chilli Crab Meat Sauce with Sliced Fried Mantou is another fan favourite; you get a slab of mantou topped with JUMBO’s signature chilli crab sauce, presented like an open-faced toast.
Thereafter, move on to the lower tier, which comes with more bite-sized savoury treats, including Scallop Wrapped in Yam Ring and Seafood Bacon Roll Tossed with Salad Cream.
We particularly enjoyed the Shelled Prawn Fried with Cereal, a nod to everyone’s favourite zi char dish.
That’s not all: you also get a small platter with a trio of classic Chinese dishes: Home-made Vegetable Beancurd Braised with Fresh Mushroom, Cod Fish Steamed with Preserved Radish and Diced Chill, Braised Abalone with Premium Sauce and Fragrant Rice.
The whole braised abalone stood out the most as it was plump and juicy, laden with umami notes.
High tea is incomplete without desserts. Start with the Chilled Lime Jelly with Mixed Fruits, a refreshing palate cleanser for all the savoury bites.
Then, indulge in the Yam Ice Cream with Roasted Pumpkin Bits, our unanimous favourite item out of everything. This house-made ice cream was uber creamy, reminding us of the actual orh nee dessert!
Should you need another “cleanse” in between each bite, the high tea includes a pot of tea of your choice. There’s the Wellness Eight Treasures Tea, made of rose, wolfberries, dried longan and more, or go for the Flower Tea, which stars jasmine and chrysanthemum.
Do note that the afternoon tea is only available at JUMBO Seafood ION Orchard, from now till 25 January 2024, and from 26 February 2024 onwards.
The restaurant tends to get packed especially during the weekends, so it’s best to make a reservation before heading down.
