Get Legit Kyoto Sando With A5 Wagyu And Shrimp Cutlet At This New Takashimaya Kiosk

Ebisu Sando Kyoto has Japanese sandos in Takashimaya

Recently, popular Japanese cookie brand Press Butter Sand opened its first Singapore outlet in Takashimaya Food Hall, joining an already stacked lineup of Japanese food vendors in the area. But that isn’t the only new kid on the block. Near the entrance of the food hall is where you’ll find Ebisu Sando Kyoto, a takeaway kiosk specialising in, you guessed it, Japanese sando. The stall is run by a Kyoto native!

Ebisu Sando Kyoto’s sandwiches are all made to order, with the preparation taking no more than five minutes. When you receive your sando, you’ll find them packed into an elegant yet economical paper box. Leave it to the Japanese to always nail their packaging.

There are seven types of sandwiches you can order here. If you’re wondering which one you should choose, you can’t go wrong with the Ebisu Pork Cutlet Sando ($16).

While these aren’t the thicc-est pork katsu you’ll find in a sando, they are fried till wonderfully crispy. That, along with the savoury, tangy tonkatsu sauce, crunchy shredded cabbage, and fluffy shokupan bread, makes this a delectable sando.

If you’re a fan of seafood, go for the Shrimp Cutlet Sando ($13). The pork katsu in the previous dish is replaced by a deep-fried patty made out of shrimp, and the result is a crispy, sweet, and juicy patty that works as the centrepiece of a sandwich.

The priciest sandwich on the menu is the A5 Japanese Wagyu Karubi Roast Beef Sando ($28). Stripped pieces of roasted Wagyu beef are the star here, but unless you have plenty of change to spare, I would say this particular sandwich is not worth the money. Despite its A5 Wagyu label, the beef here wasn’t particularly succulent enough to justify that price.

Still, most of these sandwiches are worth a shot. The next time you’re in Takashimaya, consider dropping by Takashimaya Food Hall to check out Ebisu Sando Kyoto.
