The sugar doughnuts are made entirely from scratch by an elderly Hainanese hawker. It stars a slow-fermented dough that results in a fluffier texture once fried.

After frying, the doughnuts are dusted in sugar, which becomes a sticky glaze thanks to the heat. Whether you buy a doughnut round or stick, prices remain $1.40.
Pro-tip: head down after 11:30am to get your hands on these doughnuts, as that’s when they’re freshly fried. Also sold at the stall are puff pastries, and sweet buns with filling, as well as slices of ultra-moist banana cake, made without any artificial flavouring.
While you’re there, grab a cup of their Kopi (from $1.30) if you’re a fan of sweet, strong brews. Do not miss out on their Kaya Toast, priced at $0.90 apiece, or $3.80 with a breakfast set. The toast stars thinly sliced bread grilled just so, a generous slathering of fragrant kaya, and pats of cold butter that melt once you dig in.

Also available at the coffeeshop is a popular economic bee hoon stall ideal for heartier breakfasts, and famous wonton mee stall. The latter is beloved for its signature black sauce and traditional taste, with a fiery chiilli sauce that gives just that extra kick.
