When the news of King Albert Park’s McDonald’s closure first came out, it caused a wave of sadness among the residents in the area. The space has since been replaced by a condominium, KAP Residences, which also houses a mall at the first level. Besides cafes and restaurants at KAP Residences Mall, there are also several other eateries near King Albert Park MRT Station, which is located between Beauty World and Sixth Avenue. So the next time you’re in the area, check out these King Albert Park food spots!

EagleWings Loft is a nautical-themed cafe and bar. One of their best-sellers is Lobster Risotto ($38++), where a gigantic lobster fills up almost the entire diameter of the plate. Fleshy lobster meat and rice are soaked in an umami lobster broth. If rice isn’t your thing, give their Captain’s Carbonara ($15++) a try. This creamy dish is well-executed and definitely not a run-of-the-mill pasta dish.

Besides tom yum goong, basil pork and pad Thai, one Thai dish that is not to be missed is Thai boat noodles. Here at Royal Thai Boat Noodles & Bar, they offer this common street food with either pork or beef at $3.90++ for a small portion. Customers can top up $3++ for a regular-sized bowl if the smaller option is not sufficient for them.

Rise & Grind Coffee Co. is one cafe I had never noticed for years as it was located at the open space of Bukit Timah Plaza. That cafe is truly a hidden gem, and some must-tries here are Nacho Libre Burger ($16+) and Tom Yum Seafood Pasta ($17+). Besides a patty and rocket leaves, the former also comes with tortilla chips topped with guacamole, sour cream, and salsa. You can add $2+ for a side of sweet potato fries with mentaiko sauce.

Ivins is a 30-year-old Peranakan restaurant hidden in Binjai Park. Even though it’s surrounded by private houses, it won’t be hard to find this place as both its units are always bustling. One of their most popular dishes would be Ayam Buah Keluak ($6.70++). Their Honey Pork ($5.60++), which consists of stir-fried pork strips tossed in a sweet black sauce, is one of my personal favourites!

At Karu’s Indian Banana Leaf Restaurant, you can expect both Northern and Southern Indian dishes. A dish seen on almost every table is Fish Head Deluxe ($23++). This dish boasts an enormous meaty fish head drenched in a salty and tangy curry. Besides fish head, fresh vegetables such as tomato, brinjal, and lady’s fingers make up this dish too.

Another restaurant located at Binjai Park is Italian restaurant Capri Trattoria & Pizzeria. Besides pasta, risotto, and pizza, they also have tasty appetisers such as Burrata con prosciutto crudo ($40++) – a huge ball of burrata surrounded by Parma ham. Don’t forget to end off your meal with a Lava Cake ($13++). This dessert is served differently from other restaurants. Liquor is drizzled onto the lava cake before the dessert is set on fire to melt the chocolate inside!

Myung Ga II is one of the few Bukit Timah Korean restaurants I visit for good Korean food. If you watch enough Korean variety shows, you will know that the Koreans really love Donkasseu ($13.90++). This Korean version of tonkatsu features pork cutlet drenched in a slightly sweet and spicy curry sauce. Also popular here is their Bibim-naengmyun ($13.90++). The thin noodles are chewy and smooth enough for you to slurp it up in one go.

Peperoni Pizzeria is definitely a place not to be missed when it comes to feeding large groups. Their 21-inch XXL Pizza ($55++) is enormous enough to leave no space for other things on the table. Customers can either opt for a single flavour or a half-and-half, with one flavour taking up one half of the pizza.
Address: 7 Binjai Park, Singapore 589821

Waffles with ice-cream is a dessert I can never resist. And instead of regular waffles, Kindred Folk ups its game by offering charcoal ($6) and red velvet ($7.50) waffles. Though their ice-cream sets you back $3.80 per scoop, you can get it at a discounted price of $3.30 per scoop if you get the waffle + ice cream combo.

Hup Choon Seafood serves up all-time favourites such as Prawn Paste Chicken ($8) and Hokkien Mee ($3.50) at affordable prices. The dishes come in decent portions, so this is where to hit up when your squad is on a budget. Their Butter Fries Squid ($10) and Hotplate Tofu ($9) are popular among regulars too.
