The popularity of Roast & Coffee Retro Garden—a famous breakfast spot in Johor Bahru that many know of—may have overshadowed Kopiloco by 1993, especially because these two eateries are located right next to each other. And yet, I can confidently say that Kopiloco was second to none after visiting both places. FYI, it’s a 15-minute drive from the customs.
We got the popular Peanut French Toast (RM8.80/~S$2.50) to try first. I’m not the biggest fan of French toast, but something about their Peanut French Toast had us seeing the bottom of the plate in no time.
You get creamy peanut butter sandwiched between thick, fluffy bread drenched in egg and fried, then drizzled with maple syrup.Â
The Signature Kopiloco (RM3.80/~S$1.10) was my favourite thing here. Every sip boasted a roasted fragrance that made it different from the kopi I’ve had in Singapore. And this drink amounted to just slightly more than a dollar—what a steal.
We also decided to give the Dry Fried Seafood Mihun (RM12.90/~S$3.70), their Wednesday special, a try. This dish comprised a whole lot of ingredients: egg, squid, prawns, carrots, and fish cakes. Don’t forget to mix everything before enjoying this tangy and mildly spicy combination.Â
Having tried the Signature Kopiloco first, their Three-layered Milk Tea (RM7.90/~S$2.20) paled in comparison as it was a tad cloying for my liking. But if you can appreciate milk tea that leans milky rather than having a strong tea flavour, this might be your go-to beverage.
Friendly staff and fast, efficient service are always worth a mention. We received all four items in less than 10 minutes, so don’t be deterred by the queue!
