L’Arte Pizza & Focaccia: Italian Cafe Has “The World’s Best Sandwiches” At Tanjong Pagar

New focaccia sandwiches at L’Arte Pizza & Focaccia

Don’t FOMO if you aren’t flying to Italy—or anywhere else—this December, because L’Arte Pizza & Focaccia has come up with their very own version of what’s said to be the world’s best sandwich.

In case you were wondering what the world’s best sandwich is, it’s found at All’Antico Vinaio in Florence, Italy, and has been around since the 1960s. Prepared with schiacciata, a Tuscan flatbread that’s not to be mistaken with focaccia, the sandwiches at All’Antico Vinaio have reached something of a legendary status, with hour-long queues at their four shops—located on the same street.

At L’Arte Pizza & Focaccia, their new sandwiches come in four variations: Focaccia Bufala ($18+), Focaccia Salami ($19+), Focaccia Mortadella ($20+), and Focaccia Tartufata ($22+).

Similar to their signature pizzas, the focaccia that forms the base of these sandwiches are fully made in-house, with Italian flour that’s exclusively imported for them.

$20 might seem steep for a sandwich, but these hefty sammies are easily shared by two, or more for dainty eaters. If you’re a fan of L’Arte’s Tartufata Pizza Romana ($36+), you’ll love the similarly named sandwich, spread with truffle cream, and layered with rocket leaves, Parmesan, mozzarella, and Parma ham.

The Focaccia Mortadella is my favourite, where impossibly crisp and light focaccia sandwiches a classic combination of basil pesto, burrata, mortadella, pistachio, tomatoes, and arugula.

For a non-pork option, there’s Focaccia Bufula, which stars beef pastrami alongside basil pesto, mozzarella, baked peppers, caramelised onion, and fresh greens.

If you’re here for the Roman-style pizzas made to Bulgarian “God of Pizza” Chef Radostin Kiryazov’s recipe, they have a Christmas one this season, topped with pumpkin, brie, Parmesan, turkey breast, strawberry, basil, thyme, and finished with truffle oil. Called Pizza Tachino ($36+), this limited-edition special is only available from 1 to 26 December 2022.

If you’re working nearby, another new item on the menu is the Salad Perfetto ($16+), for something clean amidst the Yuletide feasting. Here, you’ll get a mixed salad with gorgonzola, Parma ham, pine nuts, and baby peppers, dressed in olive oil.

Check out Wagatomo if you’re around Guoco Tower, for A5 Wagyu pizza by an ex-Akira Back chef! Otherwise, That’s My Pizza is a very popular hawker stall in Beauty World that’s got hand-stretched pizzas!
