Min jiang kueh is a nostalgic snack for many of us. Those who love the soft, Asian-style pancakes would have heard of Granny’s Pancake, a popular MJK chain that boasts multiple outlets across the island. Despite rising food costs, the stall is still selling their handmade min jiang kueh from just $1.20 a slice—a steal in this day and age.

You can get your min jiang kueh fix from various heartland hawker centres, including Bendemeer Market & Food Centre, Whampoa Food Centre, and Hong Lim Market & Food Centre, which is a mere four-minute walk from Chinatown MRT Station.

Prices start at $1.20 for a slice of MJK sandwiched with your choice of spread: Peanut, Red Bean, or Coconut. Regulars love how soft and fluffy the pancakes are, and how generous Granny Pancake is with the fillings. The batter is also said to be light with a slight chew, and not too heavy on the palate.

Real MJK enthusiasts go for the Peanut Butter ($1.40) flavour: a thick slab of pancake loaded with crunchy roasted peanut bits and a copious amount of peanut butter drizzle. It’s sweet and creamy with a nutty fragrance—perfect for peanut fans.

If you’re visiting the Hong Lim stall, it’s on the second floor of the food centre. They open at 7am daily and close by 2pm, so make sure you head down earlier to avoid the lunch hour queue!
