Le Royale Patisserie in Tiong Bahru has pretty bakes

Tiong Bahru isn’t just chock full of modern cafes—it also has hidden traditional gems such as Du Du Cooked Food and Ah Chiang’s Porridge. Striking a balance of both is Le Royale Patisserie, a humble bakery that specialises in fresh bakes with influences from China. From meat floss cakes and polo buns to matcha red bean toast and customised cakes, rest assured that there’s a good variety to choose from. 

A 10-minute walk from Tiong Bahru MRT Station, the bakery is situated where old-school bakery Tiong Bahru Galicier Pastry used to be. Upon conversing with the staff, it came to our knowledge that their fresh toasts and polo buns are constant favourites among customers.

For polo bun fans, they’ve got a Matcha Polo Bun ($2.20) with mango filling. 

The bun is soft and airy with a hint of matcha flavour, with a good amount of sweetness thanks to the mango filling. 

Reminiscent of the pork floss buns we’re familiar with, their Meat Floss Cake ($6) is another must-try if you love a good sweet and salty combination. 

It features a castella cake covered with chicken floss and seaweed bits, and there are a total of four pieces in each box. This pastry makes for a great snack when you’re on the go!

Besides bread, they offer a selection of fun cakes such as Matcha Yogurt Mousse ($6.80), Strawberry Chocolate Tart ($6.80), and Coconut Mousse ($6.80)

We tried the Coconut Mousse, an adorable dessert featuring a generous amount of coconut mousse encased in a chocolate shell, topped with an orange jelly “straw” as the finishing touch.

You’ll also find bits of the orange jelly when you cut the mousse cake into half. 

If you’re a durian lover, it would be a pity to leave the bakery without getting their Durian Daifuku, priced at $8.40 for two pieces. It features snow skin mochi packed with durian paste, which hits the spot with its sweet flavour and creamy texture. We recommend eating it right away as it doesn’t do well in the merciless heat. 

Le Royale Patisserie also specialises in customised cakes, which means you can get a personalised cake for your loved ones on special occasions. For prices and designs, we encourage you to consult the bakery directly.
