I love my meats, but Iâm not one to shy away from plant-based alternatives either. Now, more than ever, weâre blessed with a plethora of tasty vegetarian and vegan food options, some of which can convert even the most hardcore carnivores. One of such is Love Handle, the first-ever plant-based deli and butcher to surface in Asia.
The deli-and-diner is located in the buzzy Ann Siang Hill âhood, serving up vegan everything: burgers, noodles, snacks and more. Thereâs even a small display that lets you shop ready-to-cook items, such as meatless burger patties, marinated mince, and condiments!
If youâd thought the name âLove Handleâ sounded familiar, they used to be a part of the now-defunct 8ASH. Today, Love Handle sits in the same spot as its predecessor, but as a fully-fledged vegan concept.
Theyâve recently rolled out a new menu featuring meatless dishes, including an elegantly plated Egg Mayo Focaccia ($12++). This light starter showcases Love Handleâs house-made eggless ââegg mayoâ on toasted herb focaccia, topped with fragrant dill and sweet grapes.
Fried chicken fiends can share the dinerâs meatless rendition; the Love Handle Fried Chicken ($16++) comprises two buttermilk-fried plant-based chicken, deep-fried and served with an addictive gochujang mayo alongside kimchi.
Another must-try item is the all-new Love Handle Pastrami Banh Mi ($20++), a hearty sandwich of plant-based pastrami packed in a crusty baguette, offset by a refreshing medley of sauerkraut, pickles, and yuzu slaw. The Vietnamese-inspired number is served with fries on the side.
Thereâs also a neat lineup of vegan burgers worth trying. Order the Menchi Katsu Burger ($22++), where shredded cabbage is piled atop a panko-crusted Impossible patty, joined by Love Handle mayo and a sweet tonkatsu sauce. Fluffy buns complete the burger, along with piping hot fries on the side.
If you, like me, have a soft spot for old-school flavours, youâll enjoy the Mee Sua with Ginger Soy Chicken ($15++). This hearty bowl spotlights a fragrant ginger-soy minceâmeatless as wellâ atop silky mee sua, elevated by fried nori strips. Mix it all together and slurp up the umami-ladened noodles for a comforting meal.
For dessert, you wonât go wrong with the velvety smooth Chocolate Mousse Cake with Blueberry Jam ($12++), an egg- and dairy-free dessert that screams decadence.
If youâre dining in, there are a few counter seats, which are great as you get a clear view of the food preparation. Otherwise, head upstairs to the second level for a more intimate dining experience. Make a reservation in advance to ensure you snag a good seat!
