Maruhachi Donburi & Curry, known for their premium Japanese offerings at reasonable prices, has opened their newest outlet in Sembawang! If you’re unfamiliar with Maruhachi, they’re a Japanese don and curry stall with restaurant-quality tonkatsu AKA deep-fried pork cutlet. The stall is helmed by an ex-restaurant chef who worked in a famous local tonkatsu restaurant for nine years.Â
They first opened at Punggol, and quickly expanded across Singapore, including an outlet in Bukit Batok, which opened just last November.
Get their signature Black Pig Katsu Set ($15.80), which features a shatteringly crisp crust and succulent deep-fried Iberico pork cutlet paired with a sauce that is made with ingredients sourced from Japan. The pork is air-flown from Spain, and they use 100% cottonseed oil to ensure that the meat doesn’t taste oily and greasy. The set also comes with pickles, Japanese rice, and miso soup.
If you prefer having your Tonkatsu with curry, they have Pork Katsu Curry ($9.80), Chicken Katsu Curry ($8.80), and Black Pig Katsu Curry ($13.80).
The Pork Katsu Don ($9.80) is another signature item on the menu, and it comes with deep-fried pork drizzled with sauce and an egg. For an extra $3, you can get the Special Pork Katsu Don ($12.80), which comes with an onsen egg instead. If you like unagi, try their Una Tama Don ($10.80), which includes Japanese-style mirin eggs swirled around chunks of grilled eel.
