Mr Onigiri Opens Cafe In VivoCity, Get Stacked Rice Sandwiches With Otah, Cheesy Katsu And More

Mr Onigiri opens in VivoCity with fusion onigiri sandwiches

When Mr Onigiri launched their first kiosk along Upper Thomson, they quickly blew up on social media—so much so that they managed to open a second store, this time at VivoCity! The all-new cafe, which officially opened its doors on 8 July 2023, has dine-in seats, alongside a slew of stacked onigiri sandwiches.

The new space, which sports a neutral, minimalist look, has a few seats along the side, so you can choose to enjoy your onigiri fresh on the spot.

If you’re new to onigiri sandwiches, AKA onigirazu, try the Spam with Onigiri ($4.90), said to be an Okinawan classic. This rice sandwich comprises short-grain rice, omelette, and a thick chunk of fried spam, tucked between seaweed sheets. Top tip: visit from now till 16 July and get this sandwich at just $1.90!

Alternatively, go for the Signature Melted Cheesy Crispy Chicken ($6.90), which stars a deep-fried chicken patty with melty cheese and a creamy tartare sauce.

There’s even an OtakOtak Onigiri ($7.90) if you’re up to try something fusion! Otherwise, the Teriyaki Grilled Salmon ($8.90) might be worth considering if you want something more filling, as it comes with a big slab of freshly grilled fish.

You can also get snacks off their menu, including Crab Cream Croquettes ($5.90) and Cheese Fingers ($5.90), both of which are great for sharing.

In other related news, Onigiri Planet has also launched at Hillion Mall. This Taiwanese chain offers unique rice sandwiches paired with peanut butter katsu and more. Alternatively, for more food in VivoCity, read our Waa Cow review if you’re up for hearty rice bowls.
